Caulfield Racecourse
Caulfield Racecourse is one of Melbourne, Australia's best-known horse-racing tracks. Commonly known as "The Heath" by local racegoers, It is home to the Melbourne Racing Club. Horse-racing started there in 1859 on a bush track where the Melbourne Hunt Club met. A racecourse was then laid out on the site of the club's dog kennels. The Victoria Amateur Turf Club was then established in 1876 and the first Caulfield Cup race was run in 1879. The track has a triangular-shaped layout, comprising three straights, wide, with a total circumference of and a finishing straight of . All turns have a 4% to 6% banking. Grey Way
Grey Way, the ''Washdyke Wonder'', was a champion New Zealand Thoroughbred racehorse. He was foaled in Washdyke in 1970 near Timaru by Grey William out of Waybrooke who won the 'Broodmare of the Year' title in the 1977–78 season. Another famous racehorse foaled in this area was Phar Lap. Achievements He was horse of the year in 1973. He was grey in colour and pure white in the later stages. Grey Way was successful mainly at distances from 6 furlongs to a mile, i.e., a sprinter-miler, but he did win at longer distances. He had a record of ''51 wins and 27 seconds and 21 thirds from 164 starts''. He raced from 2 to 10 years old, beating nearly every champion that New Zealand had to offer, including Show Gate. Miss Andretti was the 2007 Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year and is the only Thoroughbred in racing history to simultaneously hold a total of five track records in Australia and England. Paulele (foaled 7 October 2018) is a Group 1 winning Australian Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Paulele is a homebred of Godolphin by stallion Dawn Approach, who shuttled to Australia as a stallion between 2014 and 2018. Paulele is one of seven winners bred from her dam, Chatoyant. This makes Paulele a three-quarter brother to the 2013 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes winner, Montsegur, and a half-brother to the 2016 Canonbury Stakes winner Tessera. Schillaci (1988–2001) was an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who was an eight-time Group One winner. He was by Salieri (USA) out of Biscarina (Biscay-Forina). Background A huge grey gelding, Schillaci was a $70,000 purchase at the 1990 yearling sales, and was named after Salvatore Schillaci, who was the leading goal scorer at the 1990 World Cup. In something of a fashion at the time, another grey gelding, Baggio, was named after one of Schillaci's teammates, Roberto Baggio, and was a consistent stakes performer in Brisbane. Racing career Schillaci was unraced at two, and made his debut in a Kyneton maiden on 22 October 1991, where he defeated Mavournae, who, like Schillaci, would go on to win the Rubiton Stakes.
