Maria Grazia Schiavo () is an Italian classical soprano who is particularly known for her performances of music from the baroque period. She has performed with major opera houses in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, and has appeared in concerts throughout Europe. Life and career Born in Naples, Schiavo was trained in her native city at the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella. After graduating, she won several music competitions; including the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia competition and the International Singing Competition of Clermont-Ferrand. She quickly established herself as an artist in the baroque repertoire and has appeared in concerts of baroque music with the Accademia Bizantina, Al Ayre Español, Auser Musici, Concerto Italiano, Europa Galante, La Risonanza, Les Talents Lyriques, and the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca. Mary Fackler Schiavo () is the former Inspector General of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), where for six years she withstood pressure from within DOT and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as she sought to expose and correct problems she perceived at the agencies. In 1997, after her stormy tenure at the DOT, Schiavo wrote '' Flying Blind, Flying Safe'', which summed up her numerous concerns about the FAA's systemic flaws. In 1987 and 1988, Schiavo, then known as Mary Sterling, handled Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) requests as a special assistant to then US Attorney General Edwin Meese. From 1989 to 1990, she also served at the United States Department of Labor as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Labor Management Standards. She also criticized the work of the 9/11 Commission. The Terri Schiavo case was a series of court and legislative actions in the United States from 1998 to 2005, regarding the care of Theresa Marie Schiavo (née Schindler) (; December 3, 1963 – March 31, 2005), a woman in an irreversible persistent vegetative state. Schiavo's husband and legal guardian argued that Schiavo would not have wanted prolonged artificial life support without the prospect of recovery, and in 1998 elected to remove her feeding tube. Schiavo's parents disputed her husband's assertions and challenged Schiavo's medical diagnosis, arguing in favor of continuing artificial nutrition and hydration. The highly publicized and prolonged series of legal challenges presented by her parents, which ultimately involved state and federal politicians up to the level of President of the United States, President George W. Schiavi di Abruzzo is a hill town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, central Italy. It is located in the Apennine Mountains, in the southernmost portion of the Abruzzo region, on border with the Molise region. It is , from the Adriatic Sea, and from Rome. Geography The historical center of the town is situated at the highest point of a mountain peak, at , and there are population centers or administrative divisions in the valleys on three sides of the mountain.
