Australian Champion Racehorse Of The Year
The Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year is awarded to the Thoroughbred horse who is voted to be the champion horse within an Australian racing season. This award is open to all racehorses racing within Australia, regardless of age and sex, and includes overseas performances. This award originally started as the Victoria Racing Club, VRC Award and was renamed Australia's Champion Racehorse in 1982. A separate award was voted on between 1976/77 and 1993/4 by the Australian Racing Writers' Association with the only variations being Gurner's Lane (1982/3) and Bonecrusher (horse), Bonecrusher (1986/7). King's Stand Stakes
The King Charles III Stakes (formerly the King's Stand Stakes) is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Ascot over a distance of 5 furlongs (1,006 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in June. History The event was created as a result of bad weather at Royal Ascot in 1860. Heavy rain made it impossible to run the Royal Stand Plate over its usual distance of 2 miles, so it was shortened to 5 furlongs on the only raceable part of the course. The amended version was called the Queen's Stand Plate, and it subsequently became the most important sprint at the Royal meeting. For a period it was open to horses aged two or older. Scenic (horse)
Scenic (13 April 1986 – 6 March 2005) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire (horse), sire. As a juvenile in 1988 he was beaten on his debut but won his next three races, ending his season by Tie (draw), dead-heating with Prince of Dance in the Dewhurst Stakes. As a three-year-old he won the Scottish Classic, as well as finishing third in the St James's Palace Stakes and fourth in the Champion Stakes. He failed to win in three starts in 1990 and was retired to stud at the end of the year. He later became a very successful breeding stallion in Australia. Background Scenic was a bay horse with a white blaze (horse marking), blaze and four white sock (horse marking), socks bred in Ireland by the Lyonstown Stud. The Newmarket Handicap is a Victoria Racing Club Group One, Group 1 Thoroughbred open handicap horse race over a distance of 1200 metres, at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia on Super Saturday in March during the VRC Autumn Racing Carnival.
