Scenarios (album)
''Scenarios'' is a duet album by pianist Andy Milne and harmonica player Grégoire Maret. It was released in 2007. It is Maret's first and only album as a co-leader to date (he later went on to record his own debut album in 2012). The album is primarily focused on originals and improvisations, and is a duet effort with the exception of Anne Drummond's alto flute on "Crystal Labyrinth" and Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition winner Gretchen Parlato adding vocals to the standard Moon River "Moon River" is a song composed by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. Andy Milne
Andy Milne (born January 30, 1969) is a Canadian jazz pianist, who records and performs both as a solo artist and as the leader of the ensemble Dapp Theory. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and raised in Kincardine and Toronto. One of ten siblings, he studied music at York University, where he was a student of Oscar Peterson. In 1990 Milne graduated and received a grant from the Canada Council to study at the Banff Centre for the Fine Arts. He met saxophonist Steve Coleman and later joined Coleman's band, Five Elements. In 1998, Milne formed the band Cosmic Dapp Theory. He has toured and recorded with Ravi Coltrane, Grégoire Maret, Sean Rickman, and Ralph Alessi. On March 13, 2012 Maret released his first album as a leader. ObliqSound
ObliqSound is a record label in New York City. It was founded by Tobias Tanner, Michele Locatelli, and Ralf Schmid. They studied music together at the New School in Manhattan. Their intent with Obliqsound is to produce musicians with a background in jazz whose music crosses genres. The roster includes Gilfema, which consists of Lionel Loueke, a guitarist from Benin; Massimo Biolcati, a Swedish-Italian bassist, and drummer Ferenc Nemeth from Hungary. Gretchen Parlato (born February 11, 1976) is an American jazz singer. She has performed and recorded with musicians such as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Barron, Esperanza Spalding, Terence Blanchard, Marcus Miller and Lionel Loueke. Parlato's ''Flor'' (2021) received a Grammy Award Nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album, hitting No. 1 upon release in iTunes Jazz and #3 Best of the Year Albums in Jazzwise Critics Poll '21. Moon River
"Moon River" is a song composed by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. It was originally performed by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 movie '' Breakfast at Tiffany's'', winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The song also won the 1962 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The song has been recorded by many other artists. It became the theme song for Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1962 (and performed it at the Academy Awards ceremony that year). He sang the first eight bars of the song at the beginning of each episode of his eponymous television show and named his production company and venue in Branson, Missouri, after it; his autobiography is called ''"Moon River" and Me''. John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (; October 21, 1917 – January 6, 1993) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer, educator and singer. He was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuosic style of Roy Eldridge but adding layers of harmonic and rhythmic complexity previously unheard in jazz. His combination of musicianship, showmanship, and wit made him a leading popularizer of the new music called bebop. His beret and horn-rimmed spectacles, scat singing, bent horn, pouched cheeks, and light-hearted personality provided one of bebop's most prominent symbols. In the 1940s, Gillespie, with Charlie Parker, became a major figure in the development of bebop and modern jazz. Henry Mancini ( ; born Enrico Nicola Mancini, ; April 16, 1924 – June 14, 1994) was an American composer, conductor, arranger, pianist and flautist. Often cited as one of the greatest composers in the history of film, he won four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music.
