Scattering Fork
Scattering Fork is a stream in Audrain County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the South Fork of the Salt River which it joins approximately four miles southeast of Mexico.''Missouri Atlas & Gazetteer,'' DeLorme, 1st ed., 1998, p. 31, The headwaters arise in southwest Audrian County at at an elevation of approximately 890 feet. It flows initially northeast then turns to the east-southeast passing under US Route 54 four miles south of Mexico and on to its confluence with the South Fork at and an elevation of 751 feet. Audrain County, Missouri
Audrain County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,962. Its county seat is Mexico. The county was organized December 13, 1836, and named for Colonel James Hunter Audrain of the War of 1812 and who later was elected to the state legislature. History Audrain county was formed from a non-county area with portions under the administration of Montgomery, Callaway, Boone, Ralls, or Monroe counties at various times prior to its official establishment in 1836. Thus, records for locations now in Audrain prior to 1836 may indicate location in those counties instead. Salt River (Missouri)
The Salt River is a tributary of the Mississippi River in eastern Missouri in the United States. The river is approximately long and drains an area of in parts of twelve Missouri counties. It rises at the confluence of the North, Middle, and South Forks in Monroe County. Since Clarence Cannon Dam construction was completed in 1983, the first 15 miles of the Salt River after the confluence of the North, Middle, and South Fork have been contained in Mark Twain Lake. Below the dam, the river winds generally east for 63 miles through a rural valley surrounded by low bluffs. Below New London, it receives Spencer and Peno Creeks from the right. The Salt joins the Mississippi River at Ted Shanks Wildlife Conservation Area (River Mile 284) just one mile north of US Route 54 bridge in Louisiana in Pike County. Mexico, formerly known as New Mexico, is a city in and the county seat of Audrain County, Missouri, United States. It is home to the Missouri Military Academy and annually hosts the Miss Missouri Pageant. The city's population was 11,469 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. U.S. Route 54 (US 54) is an east–west United States Highway that runs northeast–southwest for from El Paso, Texas, to Griggsville, Illinois. The Union Pacific Railroad's Tucumcari Line (former Southern Pacific and Rock Island Lines "Golden State Route") runs parallel to US 54 from El Paso to Pratt, Kansas, which comprises about two-thirds of the route.
