Saudi Cup Night
Saudi Cup Night is a series of eight thoroughbred horse races and one Purebred Arabian race held annually at King Abdulaziz Racetrack in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was first established in 2020. Run under the auspices of the Saudi Arabia Jockey Club, the event currently offers purses totalling US$33.5 million (as of 2024) and is the single richest day of Thoroughbred racing in the world. Thoroughbred racing is a sport and industry involving the racing of Thoroughbred horses. It is governed by different national bodies. Maximum Security (horse)
Maximum Security (foaled May 14, 2016) is a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who was the 2019 Champion Three-Year-Old after winning the Florida Derby, Haskell Invitational, Bold Ruler Handicap, and Cigar Mile. Maximum Security crossed the finish line first in the 2019 Kentucky Derby, but was disqualified for interference. As a four-year-old in 2020, he won the inaugural running of the Saudi Cup in January. On March 9, his trainer Jason Servis was indicted on multiple federal charges related to the administration of performance-enhancing drugs to his stable. Maximum Security was allegedly administered a designer drug that was considered undetectable. Panthalassa（; ; foaled March 1, 2017) is a retired Japanese race horse whose main victories include the 2022 Dubai Turf and the 2023 Saudi Cup. The name of the horse comes from the prehistoric superocean that surrounded Pangea, derived from his sire's name, which is from a God of the seas. Panthalassa is the first Japanese trained-horse to win the Saudi Cup, which has the largest purse in the world.
