George Sassoon
George Thornycroft Sassoon (30 October 1936 – 8 March 2006) was a British scientist, electronic engineer, linguist, translator and author. Early life Sassoon was the only child of the poet Siegfried Sassoon and Hester Sassoon (née Gatty), and was born in London, where his parents had rented a house to be closer to specialist help than at their home in Heytesbury, Wiltshire. Sir Sassoon Eskell, Order of the British Empire, KBE (17 March 1860 – 31 August 1932) was an Iraqi statesman and financier. Also known as Sassoon Effendi (from Turkish Efendi, a title meaning Lord), he was regarded in Iraq as the Father of Parliament. Sir Sassoon (Arabic: ساسون حسقيل or ساسون حزقيال) was the first Ministry of Finance (Iraq), Minister of Finance in the Kingdom and a permanent Member of Parliament until his death. Along with Gertrude Bell and T. E. Lawrence, he was instrumental in the creation and the establishment of the Kingdom of Iraq post Ottoman Empire, Ottoman rule, and he founded the nascent Iraqi government’s laws and financial structure. David Sassoon (born 1932) is a high end British fashion designer, who owns the Bellville Sassoon salon in Knightsbridge, London, founded by Belinda Bellville in 1953. Born to Iraqi Jewish parents, Gourgi and Victoria Sassoon in north London, Sassoon initially intended becoming an actor but turned to fashion when his father disapproved. He attended Avigdor High School and Lauderdale Road Synagogue in West London. He was invited by Belinda Bellville to join her salon in 1958 and in 1970 it became the Bellville Sassoon. He counts numerous socialites and the royal family as amongst his clientele and was the most prolific of Princess Diana's early designers. Catya "Cat" Sassoon (September 3, 1968 – January 1, 2002) was an American actress, singer and model. She was the eldest daughter of Vidal Sassoon and Beverly Adams.
