Saskatchewan Marshals Service
The Saskatchewan Marshals Service (SMS) is a provincial police service with jurisdiction in the province of Saskatchewan. The SMS will reportedly focus its enforcement efforts on serious crime, such as drug and gang activity, while providing assistance to other police forces in Saskatchewan, including the RCMP. Another area the SMS will focus on is agricultural crimes such as cattle theft and trespassing. Current plans suggest that it will be fully operational by late 2025, despite previous expectations being that it would not launch until 2026. Officers recruited in the SMS as known as Marshals. History On November 3, 2022, it was announced through a throne speech that the Saskatchewan Marshals Service will be established. By November 7, 2023, the Government of Saskatchewan announced new legislation would be passed in order to legalize the existence of the SMS. Saskatchewan Provincial Police
The Saskatchewan Provincial Police was a police force in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan that existed from 1917 until 1928 under the Saskatchewan Provincial Police Act. History Created in 1917 to replace the Royal Northwest Mounted Police (RNWMP), which was strained by involvement during World War I at the homefront with border patrols, enemy surveillance, and national security enforcement. The force took over provincial policing needs while national policing in Saskatchewan continued to be conducted by the RNWMP. The force had a maximum strength ranging from 145 to 175 officers in the 1920s. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police was contracted to act as the provincial police force after increasing costs led the provincial government to outsource the service.
