Sasha Berliner
Sasha Berliner (born June 20, 1998) is an American vibraphonist and composer. Early life Berliner was born in San Francisco and grew up in the Bay Area, where she began playing drums at age 8. In her earlier years, Berliner was more focused on rock and indie music, and she participated in the San Francisco Rock Project (formerly the San Francisco School of Rock) along with her entire family: her father, John Berliner, is a bassist on the school's board of directors; her mother, Sheri Evans, was the school office manager; and Berliner and her brother, Cole, played in the school's House Band for a number of years. In 2011, at the age of 13, Berliner auditioned for the Oakland School for the Arts, but was told they already had too many drummers. The school asked if she would be interested in playing the vibraphone instead, and she agreed without knowing what instrument it was. Julius Rodriguez, also known as "Orange Julius", is an American pianist, drummer and composer. In 2021, Rodriguez signed with Verve Records. Biography Early life Rodriguez grew up in White Plains, New York and is of Haitian descent. He began to study classical piano at an early age. He was exposed to jazz, particularly music by Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and John Coltrane through his father, an avid jazz aficionado. At age twelve, he enrolled in Manhattan School of Music's precollege division and studied there continuously throughout high school. He later studied at The Juilliard School. Jaleel Shaw
Jaleel Shaw (born February 11, 1978) is an American jazz alto saxophonist. Biography Raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Shaw attended Greene Street Friends School, the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and graduated from George Washington High School (Philadelphia). He received a dual degree in Music Education and Performance in 2000 from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He subsequently attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, from which he received a master's degree in Jazz Performance in May 2002. He was a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition that year. In 2008 he was awarded ASCAP's 2008 Young Jazz Composer Award. James Francies
James Francies (born 1995) is an American jazz pianist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger. He grew up in Houston but moved to New York to continue his musical studies. Following performances and recordings with various musicians, his first album as leader was released by Blue Note Records in 2018. Early life Francies was born in Houston in 1995, and grew up in the South Park neighborhood. He began having piano lessons at the age of five, and learning about jazz at junior high school. He went on to attend the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. He played at the church that his parents attended, and formed a jazz trio at the age of 14 that performed for three years. Warren Wolf (musician)
Warren Wolf Jr. (born November 10, 1979) is an American jazz vibraphonist and multi-instrumentalist from Baltimore, Maryland. He is on the faculty at Peabody Institute Conservatory of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Biography Warren Wolf was born in November of 1979 to Warren Wolf Sr. and Celeste Wolf. Wolf began his music studies at the age of three, learning the vibraphone, marimba, drums, and piano. A classically trained musician, he attended the Peabody Institute's preparatory program for eight years. He graduated with honors from the Baltimore School for the Arts in 1997. He went to Berklee College of Music in 1997, graduating in 2001. Nicholas Payton
Nicholas Payton (born September 26, 1973) is an American trumpet player and multi-instrumentalist. A Grammy Award winner, he is from New Orleans, Louisiana. He is also a writer who comments on subjects including music, race, politics, and life in America. Biography The son of bassist and sousaphonist Walter Payton, he began playing the trumpet at the age of four and by age nine was sitting in with the Young Tuxedo Brass Band alongside his father. Vater Percussion
Vater Percussion is an American manufacturing company based in Holbrook, Massachusetts. The company has always focused on percussion instruments, producing drum sticks, brushes and mallets. It was founded by Jack Adams, and later run by his two grandsons Ron and Alan Vater. Although the company began producing sticks in 1956, it did not officially become "Vater Percussion" until much later. History In the 1950s, Boston area drummer Jack Adams opened Jack's Drumshop in Boston, and in 1956, Fred Maichle began hand-turning drum sticks for the shop, sometimes supplying custom drumsticks to musicians touring through the area, including Philly Joe Jones, Louie Bellson, and Buddy Rich.
