Saryja Sheep
Saryja (also: Saraja; Turkmen: saryja goýuny) is a breed of fat-tailed sheep developed on the territory of Turkmenistan. The breed was developed through a long-term selection of Turkmen breeds of fat-tailed sheep, which had a high content of fluff in wool. The breed received its name from the village of Saryja, located near the Turkmen city of Mary. About the breed Sheep of the Saryja breed are usually white in color, while the legs and head are red. The musculature is poorly developed, and the coat is semi-coarse and shiny, contains a lot of fluff and contains almost no dead hair. Fleece is of braid structure, the length of braids is 13–18 cm and the fluff is 6–9 cm. The weight of an adult sheep is on average from 50 to 60 kg, the largest individuals reach 75 kg, the average weight of a ram is from 80 to 90 kg, and the largest reach 100 kg or more. Central Asian Shepherd Dog
The Central Asian Shepherd Dog, also known as the Alabay, Alabai (, ) and Turkmen Wolf-Hound (Туркменский волкодав), is a livestock guardian dog breed. Traditionally, the breed was used for guarding sheep and goat herds, as well as to protect and for guard duty. In 1990, the State Agroindustrial Committee of Turkmenistan approved the standard of the Turkmen Wolf-Hound dog breed. History The ancestor of the Central Asian shepherd originated in a geographical area between the Ural, Caspian Sea, Asia Minor, and the Northwest border of China. Telpek
The telpek () is an item of headgear that is part of the traditional clothing of the Turkmens. It is widespread in Turkmenistan but is also popular with the Turkmens of Afghan Turkmens, Afghanistan and Iranian Turkmens, Iran. In Afghanistan in particular, it is also worn by the non-Turkmen population, such as the Pashtuns and the Farsiwan, Persian-speaking population in the west of the country. Design and making The basis of the telpek is a cap made of soft leather. This is covered on the outside with sheepskin, the colour varying between white, black and dark brown depending on the type of sheepskin used. The Tanning (leather), tanning, preparation and stitching of the sheepskin is a complex process that takes a few weeks in total. In order to avoid deformation of the relatively flexible headgear, there are specially made balls made of mulberry wood on which the telpek can be placed. Turkmen Rug
A Turkmen rug (; or Turkmen carpet or Turkoman carpet) is a type of handmade floor-covering textile traditionally originating in Central Asia. It is useful to distinguish between the original Turkmen tribal rugs and the rugs produced in large numbers for export mainly in Pakistan and Iran today. The original Turkmen rugs were produced by the Turkmen tribes who are the main ethnic group in Turkmenistan and are also found in Afghanistan and Iran. They are used for various purposes, including tent rugs, door hangings and bags of various sizes. Akhal-Teke
The Akhal-Teke ( or ; from Turkmen language, Turkmen ''Ahalteke'', ) is a Turkmen horse breed. They have a reputation for speed and endurance, intelligence, thin manes and a distinctive metallic sheen. The shiny coat of the breed led to their nickname, "Golden Horses". These horses are adapted to severe climatic conditions and are thought to be one of the oldest existing horse breeds. There are currently about 6,600 Akhal-Tekes in the world, mostly in Turkmenistan, although they are also found throughout Europe and North America. The Köpet Dag, Kopet Dagh, or Koppeh Dagh (; ), also known as the Turkmen-Khorasan Mountain Range, is a mountain range on the border between Turkmenistan and Iran that extends about along the border southeast of the Caspian Sea, stretching northwest-southeast from near the Caspian Sea in the northwest to the Harirud River in the southeast.
