Saryarka – Steppe and Lakes of Northern Kazakhstan () is a part of the Kazakh Uplands (known in Kazakh language, Kazakh as ''saryarka'', or "yellow range") which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It was inscribed on July 7, 2008. (''see'' List of World Heritage Sites in Kazakhstan) The site comprises the Naurzum State Nature Reserve (located in Kostanay Province) and Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve (located in Aqmola Region). The two reserves contain wetlands which serve as important stop-over points for Bird migration, migrating birds from Africa, Europe, and South Asia. It is estimated that 15–16 million birds, including many endangered species, use the site as a feeding ground. The pink flamingos in particular are a major attraction within Korgalzhyn (lake), Korgalzhyn Reserve. Sary-Arka Airport () is an international airport which serves the city of Karaganda and its satellite town in Kazakhstan. It is located southeast of the city. History The initial airport was built in 1934, on a site at the edge of the city centre, and moved further out to its current location in 1944. The old terminal building on Shturman Street still stands, now occupied as a bus terminal and a market for car parts. In 1980 it underwent major reconstructions, including the construction of a new terminal building and the modernization of the runway. This made the landing of heavier aircraft possible, which allowed a gateway to many new destinations in the Soviet Union. In 1992, the airport was granted international status. It has become an independent joint stock company after the separation from JSC "Karagandaavia" in 1997. The Saryarka Velodrome (, ''Saryarqa velotregi''; ) is an indoor cycle-racing track or velodrome that is located in Astana, Kazakhstan. Construction Constructed in the shape of a Bicycle helmet, racer's helmet, the velodrome is a unique sports complex that not only houses a cycling track, but its 58,000 metre square surface area also contains a sports courts, a fitness centre, a swimming pool, a basketball court, an ice rink, as well as conference halls, a restaurant and a hotel. It is mainly used for track cycling, cycling and basketball. The seating capacity of the arena for cycling events is 9,270, being able to use only the permanent tiers of seating. Additional temporary tiers of seating can be added around the court area for basketball games, bringing capacity to 10,000.
