Sarwa Abdulwahid
Sarwa Abdul Wahid (Arabic: سروة عبد الواحد) is an Iraqi politician and former journalist from Kurdistan. In 2018, she became the first woman to announce her candidacy for the presidency of Iraq. She is the sister of Shaswar Abdulwahid, leader of the New Generation Movement and serves as leader of the party in Iraq's parliament. Biography Sarwa Abdulwahid is from Kurdistan. Abdulwahid graduated from the University of Baghdad in 1993 with a degree in Arabic languages. She went on to become a journalist and then worked as a teacher. In 1996, she presented a nightly political program on the Alhurra network. While a journalist, she reported that she was regularly subject to threats of false reporting by the Kurdistan Regional Government. In 1998, she started work in the Iraqi Council of Ministers working mainly on women's rights issues. Gorran Movement
The Gorran Movement (, ''Movement for Change'') or just Gorran (''Change'') is a Kurdish political party in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The party is led by Dana Ahmed Majid, it was formerly under the leadership of Omar Said Ali, and was founded in 2009 by Nawshirwan Mustafa and Qadir Haji Ali. Gorran is the sixth largest party in the Kurdistan Region, having lost almost all of its voters (95%) since its foundation, and is now no longer represented in the Iraqi parliament. The Council of Representatives is the ''de facto'' unicameral legislature of Iraq. According to the Constitution of Iraq, it is the lower house of the bicameral legislature of the country. As of 2020, it comprises 329 seats and meets in Baghdad inside the Green Zone. Federal Supreme Court Of Iraq
The Federal Supreme Court of Iraq (FSC) is the highest court of Iraq within the remit of constitutional law, having exclusive jurisdiction to interpret the Constitution of Iraq. In addition to determining the constitutionality of laws and regulations, FSC settles matters related to the application of federal laws, as well as disputes between the federal government and the federal regions and governorates, municipalities, and local administrations. 2021 Iraqi Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Iraq on 10 October 2021. The elections determined the 329 members of the Council of Representatives of Iraq, Council of Representatives who in turn elected the Iraqi President of Iraq, president and confirmed the Prime Minister of Iraq, prime minister. 25 million voters are eligible to take part in Iraq's fifth parliamentary election since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, 2003 US-led invasion and the first since the 2019 Iraqi October Revolution. 2017 Kurdistan Region Independence Referendum
An independence referendum for the Kurdistan Region of Iraq was held on 25 September 2017 in Kurdistan Region, with preliminary results showing approximately 92.73 percent of votes cast in favour of independence. Despite reporting that the independence referendum would be non-binding, the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) characterised it as binding, although they claimed that an affirmative result would trigger the start of state building and negotiations with Iraq rather than an immediate declaration of independence of Kurdistan. The referendum's legality was rejected by the federal government of Iraq and the Federal Supreme Court. Government Of The Kurdistan Region
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is the official executive body of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq. The cabinet is selected by the majority party or list who also select the prime minister of the Iraqi Kurdish polity.
