Sardula
Sardula (May 4, 1991 – February 1, 1995) was an American Thoroughbred racemare who, as a two-year-old in 1993 finished second by a nose in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies then won the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes. At age three, Sardula's wins included the prestigious Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. Breeding Sardula was bred by William T. Young at his Overbrook Farm near Lexington, Kentucky in conjunction with M&M Stables, a Lexington-based venture formed by Bob McCann of McCann Bloodstock agency and Pope McLean Sr. of Crestwood Farm. She was purchased for $40,000 by recording industry executive Jerry Moss and his wife Ann who turned over the somewhat high-strung filly's race conditioning to Brian Mayberry, a trainer widely respected for his ability and patience with temperamental young horses. Brian Mayberry
Brian A. Mayberry (March 8, 1938 - July 20, 1998) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer noted as a top race conditioner of two-year-olds. Mayberry was the son of a trainer and the grandson of John P. Mayberry who saddled Judge Himes to win the 1903 Kentucky Derby. Storm Cat (February 27, 1983 – April 24, 2013) was an American Thoroughbred stallion whose breeding fee during the peak of his stud career was $500,000, the highest in North America at the time. He was the leading sire in North America in 1999 and 2000, and the leading juvenile (two-year-old) sire a record seven times. He sired 108 graded stakes winners and eight champions, including Giant's Causeway, who also became a leading sire. Although best known as a sire, Storm Cat was one of the best two-year-old racehorses of his generation, winning the Grade I Young America Stakes and finishing second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. The Starlet Stakes is a Grade I American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old fillies run over a distance distance of one and one sixteenth miles ( furlongs) on the dirt held annually in early December at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California. History The inaugural running of the event was during the spring meeting of 1979, on 13 April at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California as a 6 furlong sprint for three-year-olds. Storm Flag Flying (foaled April 11, 2000 at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky – January 22, 2016) was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in 2002.
