Sardoba Reservoir
Sardoba Reservoir is a water storage facility located in the Sirdaryo Region, Sirdaryo region of Uzbekistan. It was built in the area traversed by the central canal of the Mirzacho'l, Southern Mirzachul aqueduct in 2017. It failed catastrophically in 2020. Design and construction The construction of the water reservoir began in 2010 and was completed in 2017. Its purpose was to utilize the fertile lands of Sirdaryo Region, Sirdaryo and Jizzakh Region, Jizzakh regions and increase the crop yields of rural farmers. The creation of a catchment area around the reservoir was also considered during the construction phase. The construction of the water reservoir involved the participation of more than 10 subcontracting companies, including "Sirdaryo Water Construction Invest" JSC (under the Ministry of Water Economy), "UzGip" LLC (designer), and "O'ztemiryo'lqurilishmontaj" JSC (main contractor for Uzbek Railways, Uzbekistan Railways). Sirdaryo Region
Sirdaryo Region () is one of the regions of Uzbekistan, located in the center of the country on the left bank of Syr Darya River. It borders with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Tashkent Region, and Jizzakh Region. It covers an area of , and is mostly desert, with the Mirzacho'l, Starving Steppe taking up a significant part of the region's area. The population is estimated to be 860,900 (2021). The capital is the city of Guliston (pop. est. 91,300, 2021). Other cities and towns include Baxt, Boyovut, Farhod, Qahramon, Uzbekistan, Qahramon, Sayxun, Sirdaryo, Khavast, Shirin, Uzbekistan, Shirin and Yangiyer. Demography The population of the region is distributed along the main highway, which divides the whole region into two parts: the western and the eastern.
