Kasriel Hirsch Sarasohn
Kasriel Hirsch Sarasohn (1835 – January 12, 1905) was an American journalist who published several newspapers in New York. He was also known as Kasriel Tzvi Sarasohn, with Tzvi being the Hebrew version of the Yiddish Hirsch, His publishing organizatoion was a partnership with his wife, Bashe, and her brother, Mordecai Jalomstein, Mordechai Yahlomstein. Biography Sarasohn's father was Eliyahu (Elijah) Sarasohn (Hebrew: אליהו שרהזון), a rabbi in present-day Poland (then Russia). He was born in 1835 in the town of Paiser, close to Sobalk, Suwalki Province, where his father was the town rabbi. Sarasohn initially studied for the rabbinate, but abandoned his preparation and emigrated to the United States in 1866, on the advice of his brother-in-law. The Sarasohns settled in New York City in 1871. In 1872, he founded ''The New York Jewish Weekly'' (ניו יארקער אידישע צײַטונג), but it foundered after five months. Homer Sarasohn
Homer Sarasohn, an IEEE Life Member (24 April 1916 – September 28, 2001), was an American engineer. When General Douglas MacArthur recruited him to re-establish the Japanese electronics industry, Mr. Sarasohn initiated the quality control standards for which Japan's electronic industry became known. He also wrote books on quality control, one of the earliest being Fundamentals of Industrial Management, which is still in print in Japan. Homer Sarasohn originally focused on the radio industry, since MacArthur saw that as a method to use as a tool of occupation for direct communication with the Japanese people. He worked with Charles Protzman, who had been charged with running Japan's telephone system. When they returned to the United States, Sarasohn recommended W. Edwards Deming to continue the campaign of quality that he and Protzman had begun. He fought with the 161st Airborne Engineers in World War II, until receiving a medical discharge at the end of 1943. David Sarasohn (born August 17, 1950) is a columnist and managing editor for ''The Oregonian'' newspaper in Portland, Oregon. Prior to joining ''The Oregonian'', Sarasohn was a writer with ''Oregon magazine'' and a professor of history at Reed College. He earned a PhD in American History at UCLA. In addition to his columns on current affairs, Sarasohn is noted for his pithy and incisive restaurant reviews in ''The Oregonian''.
