Sara Wood (b. 1941 in England) was a popular British writer of 49 romance novels in Mills & Boon from 1986 to 2004. 'Mills & Boon website'' Biography Sara Wood was born on 1941 in the south of England. Her family was poor but aspirational and avid readers. At the age of 11 Sara won a scholarship for a free place at a well-known fee-paying school. Although she passed all of her O level exams at the age of 16, she left school to train as a secretary and to help the family finances. Sarah "Sally" Sayward Barrell Keating Wood (October 1, 1759 – January 6, 1855) is considered the first American female writer of gothic fiction. She lived more than nine decades, authored four novels and one collection of tales, and was renowned as Maine's first novelist. Wood was an author of gothic novels who wrote under the pen name "A Lady of Massachusetts". After Maine became a state in 1820, she changed her pen name to "A Lady of Maine." To her readers, however, she was better known as Madame Wood. During Wood's extended period of widowhood, she wrote four novels and gained popularity in New England. Life Wood was born in York, Maine, the first daughter of Sarah Sayward Barrell and the British army officer Nathaniel Barrell, but was heavily influenced by her wealthy grandfather, Judge Jonathan Sayward. Sara Anne Wood (March 4, 1981 – disappeared August 18, 1993) was a twelve-year-old American girl who disappeared while riding her bicycle home from Norwich Corners Church in Sauquoit, New York. She is believed to have been abducted less than half a mile from her own home by convicted child killer Lewis Stephen Lent Jr. Lent later pleaded guilty to both Sara's abduction and murder and that of a twelve-year-old boy named James Bernardo, whom he had murdered in 1990. He received a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment for Bernardo's murder, and a sentence of 25 years' imprisonment to life for Sara's abduction and murder.
