Sarah Edney
Sarah Edney was selected first overall by the Brampton Thunder in the 2015 CWHL Draft. She made her debut with the Canada women's national ice hockey team at the 2015 4 Nations Cup in Sundsvall, Sweden. Playing career Edney played high school hockey at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Mississauga, Ontario. While a student there, she also competed in softball and track and field. In her junior season, she was named an assistant captain in hockey. She also played hockey for the Mississauga Junior Chiefs. During her career with the Junior Chiefs, Edney led the squad to gold and silver medals in the Ontario provincial championships. 2016 CWHL Draft
The 2016 draft for the Canadian Women's Hockey League took place on August 21, 2016. Players must register before midnight on August 1, 2016 and pay an entry fee of CDN $150. By virtue of finishing with the worst record during the 2015-16 CWHL regular season, the Boston Blades selected first overall. Kayla Tutino (born December 18, 1992) is a Canadian women's ice hockey player. Having played at the NCAA level with the Boston University Terriers women's ice hockey program, she was the first overall selection in the 2016 CWHL Draft, claimed by the Boston Blades. In 2017, Tutino was traded to the Les Canadiennes de Montréal. In 2018, Tutino announced her reitrment from professional hockey. Laura Michele Fortino (born January 30, 1991) is a Canadian ice hockey player for Markham Thunder. On October 3, 2011, she was named to the Team Canada roster that participated in the 2011 4 Nations Cup. Of note, she was the first overall selection in the 2014 CWHL Draft. 3rd NWHL All-Star Game
The 3rd NWHL All-Star Game took place on February 11, 2018 at TRIA Rink in Saint Paul, Minnesota. A skills competition was held the day prior on February 10, 2018. Brittany Ott of the Boston Pride and Amanda Leveille of the Buffalo Beauts served as All-Star captains. Of note, Leveille became the first Canadian-born player to serve as a captain in the NWHL All-Star Game.
