Sarah Arvio
Sarah Arvio (born April 3, 1954) is an American poet, essayist and translator. She is the author of ''Visits from the Seventh'', ''Sono: cantos'', and ''night thoughts: 70 dream poems & notes from an analysis'' and a combined edition of ''Sono and Visits from the Seventh''. She has won the Rome Prize in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim fellowship, a Bogliasco fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship, and other honors. Life Arvio has lived in Caracas, Mexico City, Paris, Rome and New York. She works as a translator for the United Nations in New York and Switzerland; she has also taught poetry at Princeton. A poet is a person who studies and creates poetry. Poets may describe themselves as such or be described as such by others. American Academy Of Arts And Letters
The American Academy of Arts and Letters is a 300-member honor society whose goal is to "foster, assist, and sustain excellence" in American literature, music, and art. Its fixed number membership is elected for lifetime appointments. Its headquarters is in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. It shares Audubon Terrace, a Beaux Arts/American Renaissance complex on Broadway between West 155th and 156th Streets, with the Hispanic Society of America and Boricua College. The academy's galleries are open to the public on a published schedule. Guggenheim Fellowship
Guggenheim Fellowships are grants that have been awarded annually since by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to those "who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts." Each year, the foundation issues awards in each of two separate competitions: * One open to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada. * The other to citizens and permanent residents of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Latin America and Caribbean competition is currently suspended "while we examine the workings and efficacy of the program. The U.S. and Canadian competition is unaffected by this suspension." The performing arts are excluded, although composers, film directors, and choreographers are eligible. The fellowships are not open to students, only to "advanced professionals in mid-career" such as published authors. John Koethe
John Koethe (born December 25, 1945) is an American poet, essayist and professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Biography Koethe is originally from San Diego, California. He was educated at Princeton University and Harvard University. Inspiration and influences Koethe has stated that the inspiration for many of his poems comes "in the shower, and while I'm shaving." He has said he loves living in Wisconsin, and that he finds the state beautiful. He has titled several of his poems after places in his hometown of Milwaukee, including "Hackett Avenue." As influences on his poetry, he identifies several people, including famed writers William Wordsworth and Marcel Proust. In his philosophy, Koethe's research focuses on the philosophy of language, Wittgenstein, and epistemology. Roland Legiardi-Laura
Roland (; frk, *Hrōþiland; lat-med, Hruodlandus or ''Rotholandus''; it, Orlando or ''Rolando''; died 15 August 778) was a Frankish military leader under Charlemagne who became one of the principal figures in the literary cycle known as the Matter of France. The historical Roland was military governor of the Breton March, responsible for defending Francia's frontier against the Bretons.
