Sara L.M. Davis, PhD ("Meg"), is a human rights advocate, author and researcher. Early life Born in France, Davis speaks French, English, and Mandarin. She received her doctorate from University of Pennsylvania and held postdoctoral fellowships at Yale University and the University of California Los Angeles. Career Davis is senior researcher on the Digital Health and Rights Project at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. She previously taught courses on sexual violence in conflicts and emergencies at the Geneva Centre for Education and Research in Humanitarian Action. The ''International Herald Tribune'' (''IHT'') was a daily English-language newspaper published in Paris, France for international English-speaking readers. It had the aim of becoming "the world's first global newspaper" and could fairly be said to have met that goal. It published under the name ''International Herald Tribune'' from 1967 to 2013. The human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) are two species of ''Lentivirus'' (a subgroup of retrovirus) that infect humans. Over time, they cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a condition in which progressive failure of the immune system allows life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive. Without treatment, average survival time after infection with HIV is estimated to be 9 to 11 years, depending on the HIV subtype. In most cases, HIV is a sexually transmitted infection and occurs by contact with or transfer of blood, pre-ejaculate, semen, and vaginal fluids.
