Saqf Al-Alam
''Saqf al-Alam'' () was a Syrian television series that aired during the Ramadan season of 2007. The series tells the story of the Arab traveler Ahmad ibn Fadlan played by Qais al-Sheikh Najib, with reflections and references to modern issues arising between the west and the east, mainly terrorism and the clash of civilizations. The motivation for the series was the 2005 Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy in Denmark. It was directed by Najdat Anzour. An Arab television drama or Arab soap opera (also known as musalsal (), plural musalsalat ()) is a television form of melodramatic serialized fiction. The musalsalat are similar in style to Latin American telenovelas. They are often historical epics about Islamic figures or love stories involving class conflict and intrigue. The word ''musalsal'' literally means "chained, continuous". During the evenings of the month of Ramadan, after the Iftar meal is eaten to break the day's fast, families across much of the Arab world watch these special dramas on television. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (''sawm''), communal prayer (salah), reflection, and community. Ahmad Ibn Fadlan
Ahmad ibn Fadlan ibn al-Abbas al-Baghdadi () or simply known as Ibn Fadlan, was a 10th-century traveler from Baghdad, Abbasid Caliphate, famous for his account of his travels as a member of an embassy of the Abbasid caliph al-Muqtadir to the king of the Volga Bulgars, known as his '' risāla'' ("account" or "journal"). His account is most notable for providing a detailed description of the Volga Vikings, including eyewitness accounts of life as part of a trade caravan and witnessing a ship burial. Najdat Ismail Anzour (; born November 26, 1954) is a Syrian television director of Circassian descent. Biography His father Ismail Anzour was the director of ''Taht sama'a Dimashq'' (translates to : ''Under Damascus Skies''), Syria's first silent film, in 1932.
