Sanur, Bali
Sanur ( Balinese: ᬧᬲᬶᬄᬲᬦᬸᬃ, ''Pasih Sanur''; , pronounced ''sah-noor'') is a coastal stretch of beach east of Denpasar in southeast Bali (about a 30-minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport), which has grown into a little town in its own right. A area of Sanur's coastline, from Matahari Terbit Beach to Mertasari Beach, was reclaimed in 2008. History Prehistory The Sanur stone park near Sanur gathers megaliths dating from the middle of the Bronze Age, collected from diverse places on Bali, as well as recent copies of such stones. The original megaliths were processed with stone tools - which allows them to be distinguished from the recent copies processed with more recent tools - and are evidence of the long human occupation of the island by the Bali Aga people. Mount Agung
Mount Agung (, ) is an active volcano in Karangasem Regency, Bali, Indonesia. It is located southeast of Mount Batur volcano, also in Bali. It is the highest point on Bali, and dominates the surrounding area, influencing the climate, especially rainfall patterns. From a distance, the mountain appears to be perfectly conical. From the peak of the mountain, it is possible to see the peak of Mount Rinjani on the nearby island of Lombok, to the east, although both mountains are frequently covered in clouds. Belanjong Pillar
The Belanjong pillar, also Blanjong pillar or Blanjong inscription ( Indonesian: ''Prasasti Blanjong''), is a pillar established in 914 CE in the harbour of Belanjong, in the southern area of Sanur in Bali. The pillar was established by King Sri Kesari Warmadewa, the first king of the Balinese Warmadewa dynasty, and bears a long inscription where the king describes his military campaign on the island. It is located in the Belanjong (Blanjong) Temple, where it is housed under a protective enclosure and is often decorated and partially covered with devotional cloth. The pillar was only discovered in 1932, and has remained where it was initially found. Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur
Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merprès (9 February 1880 — 31 May 1958) was a Belgian painter from Ixelles who lived the latter part of his life in Bali. Biography Le Mayeur came to Bali at Singaraja by boat in 1932. He then stayed in Denpasar and was fascinated by what remained then of Balinese culture, including the Balinese people's traditional way of life, the temple rituals and local dances. He was also impressed by the light, color and beauty of the surroundings in the then still quite unspoilt island. Le Mayeur rented a house in ''banjar'' Kelandis, Denpasar, where he got acquainted with 15-year-old legong dancer, Ni Nyoman Pollok, known by her nickname Ni Pollok , who later on became Le Mayeur's model for his paintings. Nusa Penida () is an island located near the southeastern Indonesian island of Bali, which forms a district of the same name in Klungkung Regency. The Badung Strait separates the island and Bali.
