Santiano (band)
Santiano is a German band from the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, whose songs combine Rock music, rock, Irish folk, sea shanty, and schlager music. The name Santiano is taken from the Hugues Aufray Santiano (song), song of the same name. They topped the German album charts multiple times in the 2010s, also ranking high in Austrian and Swiss charts. History The idea for the band originated with German producer Hartmut Krech of Flensburg, who owns the Elephant Music label. On 3 February 2012, the band appeared at We Love Music, an event promoted by Universal Music and ProSiebenSat.1 Media. Their first album, titled ''Bis ans Ende der Welt'' ("To the end of the World"), was released in 2012. It reached #1 in the German charts. Germany was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Is It Right", written by Elżbieta Steinmetz, Frank Kretschmer and Adam Kesselhaut, and performed by Elaiza. The German entry for the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark was selected through the national final ''Unser Song für Dänemark'', organised by the German broadcaster ARD (broadcaster), ARD in collaboration with Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). Wacken Open Air (, abbreviated as W:O:A) is a Heavy metal music, heavy metal music festival, held annually since 1990 on the first weekend of August in the village of Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein, Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Nathan Alexander Evans (born 19 December 1994) is a Scottish singer and songwriter. Evans first gained fame in 2020 by posting videos of himself singing sea shanties on social media service TikTok. In 2021, he released a cover of the folk song "Wellerman", which peaked at the top of the UK Singles Chart and also charted in several other countries. Early and personal life Before launching his music career, Evans was a postal worker with the Royal Mail, in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Airdrie, near Glasgow.
