Santha Moorthy
Santha Moorthy (born 10 September 1979) is an Indian cricketer. He made his List A debut on 10 October 2019, for Puducherry in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He made his Twenty20 debut on 18 November 2019, for Puducherry in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He made his first-class debut on 12 February 2020, for Puducherry in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy. In the match, he took a five-wicket haul, and at the age of 40 years and 155 days, became the oldest bowler to take five wickets on debut. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Frederick Wright (cricketer)
Frederick Wright (20 June 1855 – 20 November 1929) was an English cricketer. Wright was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast. He was born at Sysonby, Leicestershire. Wright made his first-class debut for Leicestershire against Derbyshire at Grace Road in the 1895 County Championship. He made four further first-class appearances for the county, the last of which came against Lancashire in the 1897 County Championship. In his five matches, Wright scored 110 runs at an average of 11.00, with a high score of 31. With the ball, he took 17 wickets at a bowling average of 21.47, with best figures of 5/78. His only five wicket haul came against Derbyshire on debut. Wright was 40 years and 49 days old, the oldest bowler to take five wickets on debut until Santha Moorthy broke the record in February 2020. The 1895 County Championship was the sixth officially organised running of the County Championship, and ran from 6 May to 2 September 1895. Surrey claimed their fifth title, which was decided by the percentage of completed matches by each side. The competition saw the first participation in the competition by Derbyshire, Essex, Hampshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire. Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral (it was previously called the Derbyshire Scorpions until 2005 and the Phantoms until 2010). Founded in 1870, the club held first-class status from its first match in 1871 until 1887. In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five–for" or "fifer") occurs when a bowler takes five or more wickets in a single innings. 2019–20 Ranji Trophy
The 2019–20 Ranji Trophy was the 86th season of the Ranji Trophy, the premier first-class cricket tournament in India. It took place between December 2019 and March 2020. Chandigarh competed in the Ranji Trophy for the first time. Vidarbha were the defending champions. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs.
