Sanskrit Cinema
Sanskrit cinema is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in Sanskrit language, with only 30 films made since 1983 and no separate industry for Sanskrit films. History The first Sanskrit film ever made was Adi Shankaracharya in 1983 by G.V. Iyer. At the 31st National Film Awards, it won four awards, including Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Audiography. The second film was Bhagavad Gita in 1992, again by G.V. Iyer. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film at the 40th National awards for 1992. The next film made was in 2015, after a gap of 22 years. From 2015 to 2017, 4 Sanskrit films were made in Kerala, India. Priyamanasam was the 3rd Sanskrit film and the first Sanskrit film from Kerala. Suryakantha
''Suryakantha'' is a Sanskrit film made in Kerala, India. It is the fifth Sanskrit film overall and the first contemporary Sanskrit film, which narrates the story of an ageing couple living out their last days. It talks about common people who converse in Sanskrit. The film won 'Special Jury award' in Kerala Film Critics Associations awards, 2017. Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Cinema of India, Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. Kannada cinema is based in Gandhi Nagar, Bengaluru. The 1934 film ''Sati Sulochana'' directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film released in the Kannada language. Janardhana Maharshi (born 16 May) is an Indian film director, writer, and producer, who works predominantly in Telugu cinema and Kannada cinema. He directed ''Devasthanam'' and '' Viswadarshanam''. Early life Maharshi was born in Kandukuru, Prakasham district and completed his schooling and higher education in Chittoor. He became a script assistant to Tanikella Bharani in 1989. Bhagavadajjukam (film)
''Bhagavadajjukam'' () is a 2021 Indian Sanskrit-language film directed by Yadu Vijayakrishnan. ''Bhagavadajjukam'' is an adaptation of the 7th century play by Bodhayana of the same name. The film had its world premiere at the International Film Festival of India. Bhagavadajjukam also won Kerala Film Critics Award for Best Sanskrit film. Synopsis Shandilya is the disciple of Parivrajaka, a Buddhist monk. He comes across Vasanthasena, a courtesan. Vasanthasena dies on the spot as a result of Yamadoota's carelessness. Witnessing Shandilya's lamentation, Parivrajaka transfers his soul to the body of Vasanthasena. What ensues is nothing but a series of humorous events. 51st International Film Festival Of India
The 51st International Film Festival of India was held from 16 to 24 January 2021 in Goa. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the festival went hybrid, there was physical and virtual screening of 50 films out of 224 films across various categories. Bangladesh was country of focus in the festival with four films of the country included in 'country of focus' section. The festival highlighted autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by premiering a film by Shreedhar, ''In Our World'' in non-feature film, Indian Panorama section on 18 January 2021. The opening and closing ceremonies of the festival were aired live on DD India and DD National channels on 16 January and 24 January 2021, respectively. Sudama
Sudama (), also known as Kuchela (), is a childhood friend of the Hindu deity Krishna. The story of his visit to Dvaraka to meet his friend is featured in the Bhagavata Purana. In their legend, Sudama and Krishna study together as children at Sandipani's ashrama, believed to have been at Ujjain. Leading a life of abject poverty, Sudama's wife urges him to go to Krishna, and request his assistance. Carrying some handfuls of parched rice as a gift, Sudama visits his old friend at Dvaraka, who receives him with honour.
