Ministry Of Panchayati Raj
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj () is a branch of the Government of India. The Ministry is in charge of the Panchayati Raj and Panchayati Raj Institutions. It was created in May 2004. The Ministry is headed by a minister of cabinet rank / Minister of State and transfers grants to rural local bodies for civic programs such as maintenance and construction of roads, pavements, bridges, drainage systems, parks, piped water supply, streetlights etc. In 1993 the passage of the List of amendments of the Constitution of India, 73rd and 74th amendments to the Constitution of India, granted powers and functions to Local Self Governments (Panchayati raj, Panchayat at Village levels and Municipalities and Municipal Corporations in towns and large cities).
