Sanopus Greenfieldorum
The whitelined toadfish (''Sanopus greenfieldorum'') is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Batrachoididae, the toadfishes. This fish is endemic to the waters off Belize. Taxonomy The whitelined toadfish was first formally described in 1983 by the American ichthyologist Bruce Baden Collette with its type locality given as from a depth of south of Carrie Bow Cay, Belize. This species is classified within the genus ''Sanopus'', which was proposed in 1928 by J. L. B. Smith with '' Opsanus barbatus'' designated as its type species. ''Sanopus'' is classified within the subfamily Batrachoidinae of the family Batrachoididae, the only family in the order Batrachoidiformes. Etymology The whitelined toadfish is a species in the genus ''Sanopus'', this name was not explained by Smith but is an anagram of '' Opsanus'', the genus that the type species, ''S. barbatus'', was classified in at the time Smith proposed the new genus. The specific name honours both Da ...

Batrachoididae
Batrachoididae is the only family in the ray-finned fish order Batrachoidiformes . Members of this family are usually called toadfish or frogfish: both the English common name and scientific name refer to their toad-like appearance (''batrakhos'' is Greek for frog). Toadfish are benthic ambush predators that favor sandy or muddy substrates where their cryptic coloration helps them avoid detection by their prey. Toadfish are well known for their ability to "sing", males in particular using the swim bladder as a sound-production device used to attract mates. Evolution Toadfish are among the most basal percomorph orders, and are thought to have diverged from their closest relatives in the Late Cretaceous. The earliest known toadfish is likely '' Bacchiaichthys'' from the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) of Italy, which very closely resembles modern toadfish and is one of the earliest known percomorphs. Its status as a toadfish has been disputed, as it is noted to have some tr ...

Atlantic
The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest of the world's five oceanic divisions, with an area of about . It covers approximately 17% of Earth's surface and about 24% of its water surface area. During the Age of Discovery, it was known for separating the New World of the Americas (North America and South America) from the Old World of Afro-Eurasia (Africa, Asia, and Europe). Through its separation of Afro-Eurasia from the Americas, the Atlantic Ocean has played a central role in the development of human society, globalization, and the histories of many nations. While the Norse were the first known humans to cross the Atlantic, it was the expedition of Christopher Columbus in 1492 that proved to be the most consequential. Columbus's expedition ushered in an age of exploration and colonization of the Americas by European powers, most notably Portugal, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. From the 16th to 19th centuries, the Atlantic Ocean was the center of both an eponymou ...

Central America
Central America is a subregion of North America. Its political boundaries are defined as bordering Mexico to the north, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. Central America is usually defined as consisting of seven countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. Within Central America is the Mesoamerican biodiversity hotspot, which extends from southern Mexico to southeastern Panama. Due to the presence of several active geologic faults and the Central America Volcanic Arc, there is a high amount of seismic activity in the region, such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, which has resulted in death, injury, and property damage. Most of Central America falls under the Isthmo-Colombian cultural area. Before the Spanish expedition of Christopher Columbus' voyages to the Americas, hundreds of indigenous peoples made their homes in the area. From the year 1502 onwards, Spain ...

Charles Richard Robins
Charles Richard Robins (November 25, 1928 – November 12, 2020) was an American academic, environmentalist and ichthyologist. Early life and university Robins was born on November 25, 1928, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Helen Ayers Robins and Claude Revere Robins, a jewellery wholesaler (and eventual Mayor of Harrisburg), who was their third and final child. As a child Robins developed an interest in natural history, particularly birds. This early ornithological interest was apparently encouraged by George M. Sutton, the Pennsylvania State Ornithologist. Robins enjoyed the writings of the celebrated ornithologist Arthur Augustus Allen of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Robins wanted to study under Allen, so he went to Cornell in 1946, However, by that time the biology department had begun to move from concentrating on ornithology to ichthyology led by Edward C. Raney. Nevertheless, Robins finished his Ph.D. thesis in 1955, revising the eastern North American sculpins ...
