Sankar Sen
Sankar Sen ( – 8 February 2020) was an Indian academic, electrical engineer and politician from West Bengal belonging to Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the vice chancellor of Jadavpur University. He served as a legislator of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He also served as the Minister of Power of the Government of West Bengal from 1991 to 1999. Biography Sen was the vice chancellor of Jadavpur University. He was a professor of electrical engineering department of Bengal Engineering College too. Sen was elected as a legislator of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Dum Dum in 1991. He was also elected from Dum Dum in 1996. The Communist Party of India (CPI) is a political party in India. The CPI considers the December 26, 1925 Cawnpore (Kanpur) conference as its foundation date. Between 1946 and 1951, the CPI led militant struggles such as the peasant revolt in Telangana, organising guerrilla warfare against feudal lords. The CPI was the main opposition party in India during the 1950s to 1960s. In 1964, a split in the CPI led to the formation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which eventually emerged as the larger of the two parties. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly (ISO 15919, ISO: ''Paścimabaṅga Vidhānasabhā'') is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of West Bengal, located in eastern India.
