''Sangrador'', also known as ''Macbeth, Sangrador'', is a 2003 Venezuelan film written and directed by Leonardo Henríquez. Set in 1900s Andean Venezuelan gangland, it retells the story of Shakespeare's ''Macbeth''. The film had a poor critical reception and low box office turnout. It was selected as the Venezuelan entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 76th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. Synopsis The story of Macbeth, King of Scotland is reimagined in early-twentieth-century Venezuela; the king is represented as Maximiliano (Max), a gang member. The gang, who hide in the mountains and subsist by stealing furniture and artwork from transport vans, is first led by a man called Durán; Max is one of the youngest members but also a favorite of Durán's. Venezuela has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1978. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. Venezuela has had thirty-one films accepted by AMPAS for Oscar consideration, but none have yet been nominated for an Academy Award. However, in 2014 the official submission '' The Liberator'' was included in the January shortlist along with nine other foreign submissions. In 2005, their official submission, '' 1888: El Extraordinario Viaje de Santa Isabel'', did not arrive in time due to a dispute with a rival film, '' Secuestro Express''. Daniel Alvarado (12 August 1949 – 8 July 2020) was a Venezuelan actor. Personal life He was married three times. He had two sons, Daniel and Luis, from his first marriage. From second marriage with Carmen Julia Álvarez (1978–1994), he had a daughter Daniela and son Carlos Daniel. From his third marriage with Emma Rabbe (1998–2020), he had three sons, Daniel Alejandro, Diego José and Calvin Daniel. Alvarado died at the age of 70 on 8 July 2020 after falling from steps in his home and hitting his head. His death was announced the same day on social media by Daniela. This is a list of submissions to the 76th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is handed out annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non- English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. For the 76th Academy Awards, fifty-six films were submitted to the Academy. Mongolia, Palestine and Sri Lanka submitted a film for the first time. Lady Macbeth is a leading character in William Shakespeare's tragedy ''Macbeth'' (). As the wife of the play's tragic hero, Macbeth (a Scottish nobleman), Lady Macbeth goads her husband into committing regicide, after which she becomes queen of Scotland. After Macbeth becomes a murderous tyrant, she is driven to madness by guilt over their crimes, and commits suicide offstage.
