Sangkhumi Bualchhuak is a social activist known for the cause of women empowerment in Mizoram. Activism B Sangkhumi was President of Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), an apex body representing several local women's groups in Mizoram had been instrumental in passing of The Mizo Marriage Bill 2013, The Mizo Inheritance Bill, 2013, and The Mizo Divorce Bill, 2013. Career B. Sangkhumi is a former public servant who has worked as Director, Higher & Technical Education in the Government of Mizoram member and Chairman of Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC). Upon reitirement she went on to lead Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP). She has also uncessfully contested Champhai South MLA Constituency in 2013. Awards B. Mizoram
Mizoram () is a state in Northeast India, with Aizawl as its seat of government and capital city. The name of the state is derived from "Mizo", the self-described name of the native inhabitants, and "Ram", which in the Mizo language means "land." Thus "Mizo-ram" means "land of the Mizos". Within India's northeast region, it is the southernmost landlocked state, sharing borders with three of the Seven Sister States, namely Tripura, Assam and Manipur. Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl
Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (meaning "binding women together" in the Mizo language) or MHIP was formed in the union territory of Mizoram, India, on 6 July 1974. It aims to empower women and support women's rights. Following the 2009 decision of the Delhi High Court to legalize same-sex relationships, MHIP joined an anti-LGBT alliance with Mizoram Upa Pawl (MUP), the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP). Mizo People
The Mizo people (Mizo: ''Mizo hnam'') are an ethnic group native to the Indian state of Mizoram and neighbouring regions of Northeast India. The term covers several related ethnic groups or clans inside the Mizo group. All Mizo tribes and clans claim in their folk legends that Sinlung (alternatively called "Chhinlung" or "Khul") was the cradle of the Mizos. Sinlung can either refer to "enclosed with a rock" in the Mizo languages or to a main ancestor named "Chin-Laung" from whom Mizo, Chin and other clans descended. The present Indian state of Mizoram (literally "Mizoland") was historically called the Lushai Hills or Lushai District. The Lushai Hills area was defined as an excluded area during the British Raj, and as a district of Assam in independent India.
