Sangerhausen Station
Sangerhausen station is a station in the town of Sangerhausen in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. It was opened for passenger operations in 1866. It became a junction station in 1881 with the opening of the Sangerhausen–Erfurt railway. A new station building was built after the Second World War, which is now heritage-listed. In the past, it was served by long-distance traffic. Extensive modernisation of the platforms and buildings have taken place since 2014. Location The station is located in the north of the town and almost a kilometre from the town centre. It is located at line kilometre 59.2 of the Halle–Hann. Münden railway and is the starting point of the Sangerhausen–Erfurt railway, line to Erfurt. It faces ''Lengefelder Straße'' and ''Kaltenborner Weg''. Sangerhausen () is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, central Germany, capital of the district of Mansfeld-Südharz. It is situated southeast of the Harz, approx. east of Nordhausen, and west of Halle (Saale). About 26,000 people live in Sangerhausen (2020). History Sangerhausen is one of the oldest towns in the historical region of Saxony-Anhalt, being first mentioned in a document created between 780 and 802 in Fulda Abbey. Sangerhausen is mentioned as the tithable place ''Sangerhus'' in Friesenfeld in the Hersfeld Tithe Register, created between 881 and 899. It is mentioned in a document of 991 as appertaining to the estates of the emperor, as part of Memleben Abbey. Mansfeld Land () is a region in the southwestern corner of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The region derives its name from the counts of Mansfeld, who ruled this region for about 1,000 years. Geography In the west and northwest, Mansfeld Land covered the eastern foothills of the Harz Mountains and is bounded in the east by the River Saale. To the north and south the territories of the two former county towns of Eisleben and Hettstedt form the boundary, whilst the territories of Sangerhausen and the town of Mansfeld form the border in the southwest to west. The InterRegio, often shortened to IR, is a train categories in Europe, train category for mainly domestic train services in use in some European countries, with Swiss Federal Railways operating the most dense network. InterRegio trains are semi-fast long-distance trains with more stops and usually lower prices than more upscale long-distance trains such as the InterCity (IC). A ''Schnellzug'' is an express train in German-speaking countries. The term is used both generically and also as a specific train type. In Germany and Austria it is also referred to colloquially as a ''D-Zug'', a short form of ''Durchgangszug'' ("through train"), and express train services were often given numbers preceded by the letter ''D''. A ''Bahnbetriebswerk'' is the equivalent of a locomotive depot (or motive power depot) on the German and Austrian railways. It is an installation that carries out the maintenance, minor repairs, refuelling and cleaning of locomotives and other motive power. In addition it organises the deployment of locomotives and crews.
