Sandviken
Sandviken is a locality and the seat of Sandviken Municipality in Gävleborg County, Sweden with 26,438 inhabitants in 2023. It is situated about 25 km west of Gävle and lies approximately 190 km north of Stockholm. The rail journey to Stockholm takes about 1.5 hours and to Arlanda, Sweden's main international airport, around an hour. Sandviken is the home town of the major high-technology Swedish engineering concern Sandvik and the main office of the company was located in Sandviken until January 2012 when it was moved to Stockholm. Culture and recreation Sandviken is home to a number of cultural activities: Kulturskolan means "the culture school" (extramural music, dance and drama training), Sandviken Big Band, Sandviken Symphonic Orchestra and many musicians in the region. Swedish Bandy Champions
Swedish bandy champions () is a title held by the winners of the final of the highest Sweden, Swedish bandy league played each year, Elitserien (bandy), Elitserien. The final is called ''Svenska bandyfinalen'' ("Swedish Bandy Final") and is played in March. From the 2007–08 season, Saturday replaced Sunday as the final date, but was changed back to Sunday again and again to Saturday in 2015 in 2010. In 2009 Eurosport 2 showed it for the 1st time. History The first final was held in 1907, when IFK Uppsala Bandy, IFK Uppsala beat IFK Gävle with 4–1 in Boulognerskogen, Gävle. In 1912 two winners were declared, because no replay of the tied final could be played due to the weather. Bandy World Cup
The Bandy World Cup is an international bandy competition played in Sweden at the beginning of the bandy season every year, in autumn. The participating teams qualify based on their results in the previous bandy season. The World Cup is not played by national teams but is for bandy clubs from around the world, and should therefore not be confused with the Bandy World Championship. It is usually considered to be "the world championship for clubs". The tournament has been dominated by the Swedish and Russian teams. History The Bandy World Cup was held every year in Ljusdal Municipality, Ljusdal in Sweden from 1974 to 2008, at the start of the bandy season in autumn. 2017 Bandy World Championship was the 37th Bandy World Championship and was held in Sweden. The games in Division A were played in Göransson Arena in Sandviken, 29 January to 5 February. The games of Division B were played in Slättbergshallen in Trollhättan, 24–28 January. Also Gävle, where no match was played, was officially a host city. However, the FIB congress took place there. Sandviken Municipality () is a municipality in Gävleborg County, in east central Sweden. The seat is the town of Sandviken. The present municipality was created in 1971 through the amalgamation of the City of Sandviken (itself instituted in 1943) with a number of surrounding rural municipalities. Coat of arms The coat of arms was granted to the then City of Sandviken upon its institution in 1943. The device in the middle is a steam hammer. Sandvikens IF is a Swedish football club located in Sandviken. The club, formed 6 June 1918, has played 21 seasons in the highest Swedish league, but is in the second highest Swedish league, Superettan. Sandvikens IF are affiliated to the Gestriklands Fotbollförbund. As Sandviken is an industrial community, dominated by the steel and metal corporation Sandvik, the team has been much influenced by this. Göransson Arena is an indoor arena in Sandviken, Sweden. It opened in 2009 and holds up to 10,000 people at music events and 4,000 spectators for bandy. History The building of the arena was financed by the Göransson Foundations, established by Göran Fredrik Göransson who founded the Sandvik corporation. It was then sold to Sandviken Municipality for a symbolic sum of 1 SEK. It is the home arena for the bandy team Sandvikens AIK and the Bandy World Cup has been played there since 2009.
