Sandra Reynolds
Sandra Reynolds Price (née Reynolds; born 4 March 1934) is a South African former tennis player who won four Grand Slam women's doubles championships and one Grand Slam mixed doubles championship. Her best Grand Slam singles result was reaching the 1960 Wimbledon final, losing to Maria Bueno 8–6, 6–0. Reynolds is the only South African woman to reach the Wimbledon singles final, and is one of three to have reached a major singles final. In 1961, she was seeded No. 1 for the Wimbledon singles event, making her the only South African player (man or woman) ever to be seeded first in a singles major. She was the runner-up at the 1959 U.S. Women's Clay Court Championships, losing to Sally Moore in the final. Price won the German Championships in 1960, 1961, and 1962. Sally Moore (tennis)
Sally Moore Huss (born June 8, 1940) is a former American tennis player. Moore grew up in Bakersfield, California. She won several national titles and was part of the 1959 Wightman Cup team. In 1958, she won the Wimbledon junior championship and made it to the women's singles semi-finals of the 1959 Wimbledon Championships. After retiring at the age of 21, she worked in Hollywood before pursuing a career as an author and artist. Her art has been exhibited in 27 galleries, including her own Sally Huss Gallery. Personal life Moore Huss was born on 8 June 1940 in Long Beach, California. She is the daughter of Laurren Moore (an oil refinery manager) and Marie Moore (a homemaker). Yolanda del Monte Carmelo Ramírez y Partida (1 March 1935 – 9 March 2025), known simply as Yola Ramírez, was a Mexican tennis player active in the 1950s and 1960s who was twice a singles finalist and once a women's doubles champion and mixed doubles champion at the French Open. Mary Carter Reitano (''née'' Carter; born 29 November 1934) is a former tennis player from Australia. As a junior player she won the girls' singles title at the Australian Championships in 1951 and 1952. Reitano won the singles title at the 1956 Australian Championships, defeating Thelma Long in the final in three sets after surviving a match point in the third set. Lorraine Coghlan Robinson (née Coghlan; born 23 September 1937) is a former tennis player from the state of Victoria in Australia. In 1956, she won the Australian Championships Girls' Singles title. Rodney George Laver (born 9 August 1938) is an Australian former professional tennis player. Laver was ranked as the World number 1 ranked male tennis players, world number 1 professional player indisputably for five years from 1965 to 1969, and by some sources also in 1964 and 1970. He was also ranked as the number 1 amateur in 1961 and 1962. Laver won 200 singles titles across his amateur and professional careers, the most won by any tennis player. Renée Schuurman Haygarth (née Schuurman; 26 October 1939 – 30 May 2001) was a South African tennis player who won five Grand Slam women's doubles titles and one Grand Slam mixed doubles title. Lance Tingay (15 July 1915 – 10 March 1990) was a British sports journalist, historian, and author of several tennis books. For many years his annual ranking of top tennis players was "the only one that counted" before ATP rankings were introduced in 1973. Career Journalism Tingay began his journalism career with the ''Exchange Telegraph'' news agency. Tingay claimed that he had watched every Wimbledon Championship beginning since 1932. During World War II, he served in the Royal Air Force. Tingay was the tennis correspondent for ''The Daily Telegraph'' from 1952 until his retirement in 1981.
