Sandra Llano-Mejía
Sandra Isabel Llano-Mejía (born 1951) is a Colombian multimedia artist. She is considered "a pioneer of video art in Latin America". In the 1970s and 1980s, Llano-Mejía's video art was shown throughout Mexico and the United States. She has an interest in technology in her artwork, such as computers and medical equipment. In the 1970s Llano-Mejía worked in xerox art. Llano-Mejía attended in Cali, Colombia; followed by studies at Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (ENAP) in Mexico City; National Autonomous University of Mexico; and Metropolitan Autonomous University in Mexico City. Her work can be found in the museum collections at the Museum of Modern Art. María Evelia Marmolejo (born 1958) is a Colombian radical feminist performance artist, later based in Madrid and New York City. She is credited by the Colombian scholar María Lovino with staging the first work of feminist performance art in Colombia, in 1981. She is best known for discussing controversial themes such as political oppression, feminism, environment, and socioeconomic issues within her performances. Early life Marmolejo was born in Pradera, Colombia, in 1958. Raised in a Catholic family with four brothers, from an early age she became displeased with the idea of machismo and her inferior role in a male-dominated society, which led her to express this frustration in future artworks such as "Tendidos". Pola Maria Weiss Álvarez (May 3, 1947 – May 6, 1990), also known as Pola Weiss, was widely recognized as the first pioneer of video art in Mexico. She is also remembered for her experimental videos in which she merged dance and video, becoming a pioneer in what is now known as screendance or ''videodanza'' ( videodance). She also worked as a television producer and instructor of film, video, and television. Life Weiss was born in Mexico City in 1947 to a father of Alsatian descent and Mexican mother.
