Sandiacre Town Football Club is a football club based in Sandiacre, England. The club today has 38 teams including junior up to senior. History Sandiacre Town Football Club was formed in 1978 by Malc Turton and Pete Smith and Tony Mattison. They had previously run the successful Ilkeston Town Under 14's, and saw the need for youth football in Sandiacre. At the very first practice night over 150 youngsters turned up and it was decided to run three teams in the Notts Youth League at under 16's, 14's & 12's. The first Trophy for the club was when the under 14 team won the 1978-79 Notts. Youth league beating Clifton All Whites 5-2 to pip them to the league title. The team was run by Tony Mattison and Peter Thornley. Season 1979-80 saw the number of youth teams grow to five with a Saturday senior side also being established and joining the Central Alliance League as one of the founding members. Sandiacre
Sandiacre is a town and civil parish in the borough of Erewash in Derbyshire,England adjoining the border with Nottinghamshire. The population of the parish was 8,889 at the 2011 Census. The name Sandiacre is usually thought to refer to a ''sandy acre'', though another interpretation, based on ''Saint Diacre'', is sometimes advanced. Geography Sandiacre is 7 miles west of Nottingham and 9 miles east of Derby. It is part of the Greater Nottingham urban area. It is on the western side of the River Erewash from Stapleford in Nottinghamshire. Sandiacre is adjoined by Long Eaton to the south and Risley to the west. History The parish church is Saint Giles' Church, which dates back to the 10th century. There is also a Methodist church in the town. The old village lock-up still exists, situated near to St. Giles. The Central Midlands Alliance is an English football league covering the northeast-central part of England. Formed in 1971 as the South Derbyshire League, changing name initially to the Derbyshire League before changing to the Central Midlands League in 1983, it covers parts of Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Staffordshire, although Sheffield-based teams play in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Football League.
