Sana (singer)
Sana Minatozaki (; born December 29, 1996), known mononymously as Sana (; ), is a Japanese singer based in South Korea. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Twice, formed in 2015 by JYP Entertainment, and its subunit MiSaMo, formed in 2023. Career Early life and pre-debut Sana was born on December 29, 1996 in Tennōji-ku, Osaka, Japan, as an only child. Sana stated that she wanted to become a singer and dancer early on and was inspired by the K-pop group Girls' Generation. Sana began training with EXPG in Osaka in 2009, originally planning to be a singer in Japan, rather than South Korea. During her middle school years, she was scouted by a JYP Entertainment (JYPE) employee at a shopping mall and was invited to participate in the annual JYP Japan audition the following day. It was released by JYP Entertainment on October 20, 2015, as the lead single from their debut extended play ''The Story Begins''. It was written and composed by Black Eyed Pilseung and Sam Lewis. The show pitted sixteen trainees against one another to secure a spot in the girl group Twice. ''Sixteen'' contestants were assessed not just by their singing and dancing abilities but also their charisma and personality. The show ran from May 5 to July 7 on Mnet for ten episodes. Sinking Of MV Sewol
On the morning of 16 April 2014, the ferry MV ''Sewol'' sank while en route from Incheon towards Jeju City in South Korea. The 6,825-ton vessel sent a distress signal from about north of Byeongpungdo at 08:58 KST (23:58 UTC, 15 April 2014). Out of 476 passengers and crew, 304 died in the disaster, including around 250 students from Danwon High School in Ansan. Around 82% of the ''Sewols casualties were children and out of the 172 survivors, more than half were rescued by fishing boats and other commercial vessels that arrived at the scene approximately 40 minutes before the Korea Coast Guard (KCG).
