San Pedro Pirates FC
San Pedro Pirates Football Club is a Belizean football team that competes in the Premier League of Belize (PLB). The team is based in San Pedro Town and plays home matches at Ambergris Stadium. The team joined the PLB for the 2017–18 season. They won their first PLB championship in the 2018–19 closing season, defeating the Belmopan Bandits, who were defending champions. San Pedro Town, Belize
San Pedro is a town on the southern part of the island of Ambergris Caye in the Belize District of the nation of Belize, in Central America. According to the 2015 mid-year estimates, the town has a population of about 16,444. It is the second-largest town in the Belize District and largest in the Belize Rural South constituency. The once sleepy fishing village was granted the status of a town in 1984. San Pedro's inhabitants are known as San Pedranos and most of them originally came from Mexico. Most speak both Spanish and English fluently. Due to the influence of English-based Kriol, most San Pedranos can speak English, as well as an intermediate form between English and Spanish that is known as "Kitchen Spanish". It is said one is not a true San Pedrano if one doesn't know how to fish. The town is said to be the inspiration for the song "La Isla Bonita" (which begins with the line "last night I dreamt of San Pedro"), written by Madonna, Patrick Leonard and Bruce Gaitsch. ...

It was founded on 28 December 2011 after the merger between the Belize Premier Football League and the Super League of Belize. History The formation of the league was a combination of Belize’s suspension by FIFA and the Belize Premier Football League withdrawing from the Football Federation of Belize. It was decided that a brand new top league was to be formed, the winner of which would represent Belize in the CONCACAF Champions League. Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019–20 Premier League of Belize closing season was cancelled after the eighth round of games and a winner was not crowned. The 2022–23 Premier League of Belize is the tenth season of the Premier League of Belize, the highest competitive football league in Belize, after it was founded in 2011. The league commenced in July 2022 and is scheduled to end in mid 2023. The season is divided into two halves (opening and closing), each crowning one champion. Teams There were eight teams that participated in the 2022–23 season. From the 2021–22 FFB Top League, administered by the Football Federation of Belize, four teams returned to the league. These were Altitude, San Pedro Pirates, Verdes and Wagiya. After a brief hiatus from top level football, Belmopan Bandits also returned to the league. There were two seasons which were spread over two years. The opening was played towards the end of 2017 and the closing was played at the beginning of 2018. ''Amandala'' is a Belizean tabloid newspaper. Published twice weekly, it is Belize's largest newspaper. ''Amandala'' was established in 1969 as the print organ of the now-defunct United Black Association for Development (UBAD), but has been politically independent since the mid-1970s.
