San Pablo Peninsula
San Pablo Peninsula is a peninsula in western Richmond, between San Pablo Bay and San Rafael Bay, in southwestern Contra Costa County, California. Geography The peninsula runs between Castro Cove and Point San Pablo, and is dominated by the steep ridges of the Potrero Hills, an escarpment that runs along the entire peninsula. The peninsula is largely owned by Chevron and is used as a safety buffer for security purposes (see Chevron Richmond Refinery). Point Molate Beach Park
Point Molate Beach Park is a city-owned park in Richmond, California, accessible only via a narrow road from the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge toll plaza exit "Western Drive", and separate from the rest of the city. The park is adjacent to the present day ghost town of Winehaven. History The Beach Park - originally part of the Point Molate Naval Fuel Depot - was leased to the City of Richmond in the early 1970s for $1.00/month and developed by the Navy as a gesture of goodwill to local residents and to provide recreation for the Navy and their families stationed at Pt. Molate. Subsequent budget concerns and cleanup needs led to a complete closure of the park in 2001. Winehaven, California
Winehaven was a winery and town in Richmond, California, that held the title of "world's largest winery" for 12 years (1907–1919). It later became a fuel depot for the United States Navy. After the 1906 San Francisco earthquake left the city in ruins, the California Wine Association moved to Point Molate, a promontory on the east shore of San Pablo Bay, and began construction of Winehaven. At the peak of the season, as many as 400 workers lived here, as all of the California Wine Association's shipments to foreign, coastal and New York markets sailed from the Winehaven dock—shipment capacity was 500,000 gallons (1,892,705 liters) a month, and 40 ships sailed annually for New York alone. The winery was shut down by Prohibition in 1919, and the company sold off its assets to avoid bankruptcy. Winehaven went mostly unused from about 1920 until the late 1930s. Point San Pablo Yacht Harbor
Point San Pablo Harbor is a marina and small community at the far end of Point San Pablo in San Pablo Bay, within Richmond, in Contra Costa County, California. It is located at 1900 Stenmark Drive, Richmond CA 94801. Overview The community is home to a few dozen individuals living in boats and 10 floating homes. Point San Pablo Harbor was originally envisioned by Captain Clark who was the brainchild behind the origins of the Richmond San Rafael Ferry. The area also features the Point San Pablo Marina, Nobilis Restaurant, and The San Pablo Bay Sportsmen's Club. The harbor village is located in a ravine at the northern tip of the Potrero Hills and alongside a small cove the opens to San Pablo Bay, where the marina is protected from waves, in addition to a breakwater.
