San Francisco De Los Tejas
Mission San Francisco de la Espada (also Mission Espada) is a Roman Rite Catholic mission established in 1690 by Spain and relocated in 1731 to present-day San Antonio, Texas, in what was then known as northern New Spain. The mission was built in order to convert local Native Americans to Christianity and solidify Spanish territorial claims in the New World against encroachment from France. Today, the structure is one of four missions that comprise San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. History Founded in 1690 as San Francisco de los Tejas near Weches, Texas, and southwest of present-day Alto, Texas, Mission San Francisco de la Espada was the second mission established in Texas. Alto is a town in Cherokee County, Texas, United States. With a population of 1,027 at the 2020 U.S. census, Alto is the closest municipality to the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, an archaeological site dating back to 800 BC, featuring a prehistoric village and ceremonial center. Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation
The Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation is a cultural heritage organization of individuals who identify as lineal descendants of the Coahuiltecan people. They have a nonprofit organization, the American Indians in Texas-Spanish Colonial Missions, based in San Antonio, Texas. The Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation is an unrecognized organization. Despite using the word ''nation'' in its name, the group is neither a federally recognized tribe nor a state-recognized tribe. Texas has "no legal mechanism to recognize tribes" and has no state-recognized tribes. Wimberley, Texas
Wimberley is a city in Hays County, Texas, United States. It is still predominantly a ranching area. The population was 2,839 at the 2020 census. History Wimberley started as a trading post settlement near Cypress Creek in 1848, the year Hays County was organized. After William Carvin Winters built a gristmill at the site in 1856, it took on the name "Winters' Mill". When the mill was sold in 1864 to the Cude family, its name was changed to "Cude's Mill". It was sold again in 1874 to Pleasant Wimberley and took on his name. Over the years, the mill was expanded to process lumber, shingles, flour, molasses, and cotton. The mill is gone, but Winter's home survives and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1880, Alfred vom Stein, a postmaster from San Marcos, applied to have a post office established in the community, calling it "Wimberleyville". Manuel De Sandoval
Manuel de Sandoval was a prominent Neomexican soldier who served as governor of Coahuila (1729–1733 ) and Texas (1734–1736). During his administration in Texas, he lived in and worked on the problems of Bexar, but he neglected Los Adaes, which was the capital of Texas. He served to control French expansion and prevent it from reaching Texas. Under his administration, the French commander Louis Juchereau de St. Denis transferred a French presidio from Louisiana to Texas, which led to Sandoval being expelled from the government and replaced. Sandoval was accused of several charges linked to his administration, which took him to prison and to pay a fine equivalent to 500 dollars. Mission Tejas State Park is a state park located along Texas State Highway 21 in Houston County, Texas, originally constructed in 1935 and transferred to Texas Parks and Wildlife in 1957. The closest major town is Crockett, Texas. The park is open year-round. Overview Mission Tejas State Park contains several historic resources of East Texas and provides recreation for visitors. José Domingo Ramón (?-December 23, 1723) was a Spanish military man and explorer who founded several missions and a presidio in East Texas to prevent French expansion in the area. Biography Domingo Ramón was born to Diego Ramón, a soldier who served as commander of the Presidio San Juan Bautista in Coahuila, in the modern Mexico. In 1715, Ramón was appointed commander of a Spanish expedition whose purpose was to go to East Texas. The objective of the expedition was the foundation of four religious missions, as well as a presidio to prevent French expansion from Louisiana. The expedition, led by the Quebecer official commander Louis Juchereau de St. Denis, began its journey in San Juan Bautista (present-day Guerrero, Coahuila) on April 12, 1716 and was made up by seventy-five members (among them twelve friars, including Isidro de Espinosa, and more than twenty civilians).
