San Felipe Pueblo Elementary School
San Felipe Pueblo Elementary School (SFPES), also known as San Felipe Pueblo Day School, is a Bureau of Indian Education-operated school in San Felipe Pueblo, New Mexico. It is a K-7 school, and was previously a K-8 school. It has a laboratory for education in aeronautics fields that was established by NASA; as of 2003 it is the only such laboratory in any American elementary school. Facilities In the 1990s an educator who assisted various New Mexican schools with mathematics and science programs suggested to NASA that they establish an educational laboratory at San Felipe Pueblo. In 1999 the agency offered to build one on the condition that the community do fundraising to where it could generate $200,000. The laboratory was dedicated in 2002. San Felipe Pueblo, New Mexico
San Felipe Pueblo ( Eastern Keres: Katishtya, Navajo ''Tsédááʼkin'') is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sandoval County, New Mexico, United States, and is located 10 miles (16 km) north of Bernalillo. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 2,080. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area. Description The Pueblo, founded in 1706, is home to a Native American Nation who speak an eastern dialect of the Keresan languages. The Pueblo celebrates the annual Feast of St. Philip on May 1, when hundreds of pueblo people participate in traditional corn dances. The ''Albuquerque Journal'' is the largest newspaper in the U.S. state of New Mexico. History The ''Golden Gate'' newspaper was founded in June 1880. In the fall of 1880, the owner of the ''Golden Gate'' died and Journal Publishing Company was created. Journal Publishing changed the paper's name to ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' and issued its first edition of the ''Albuquerque Daily Journal'' on October 14, 1880.
