San Esteban ("St. Stephen" in Spanish) is a city and commune in the Los Andes Province of central Chile's Valparaíso Region. The commune spans an area of . Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, San Esteban spans an area of and has 14,400 inhabitants (7,298 men and 7,102 women). Of these, 7,542 (52.4%) lived in urban areas and 6,858 (47.6%) in rural areas. The population grew by 18.5% (2,247 persons) between the 1992 and 2002 censuses. San Esteban, Olancho
San Esteban is a municipality in the northeast of the Honduran department of Olancho, west of Dulce Nombre de Culmí, east of Gualaco and north of Catacamas. Costa Rican author Oscar Núñez Oliva set his 2000 novel ''Los Gallos de San Esteban'' in the municipality. History The municipality was named in honor of friar Esteban Verdelete, a missionary who collaborated in the evangelism of the people of the region. It was founded in 1808 by friar José Antonio Liendo y Goicoechea from Guatemala. It was populated by indigenous people at that time. San Esteban, officially the Municipality of San Esteban ( ilo, Ili ti San Esteban; fil, Bayan ng San Esteban), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines. Etymology The Spaniards named the pueblo (the equivalent of a municipality in present-day terms) San Esteban (formerly known as ''Cabagbagototan'') because they have received reports of a vagabond named Iban having been stoned to death and beheaded by hostile natives in the place called "Naglawlawayan," which is an early place of worship by the natives, and currently the site of the municipal cemetery. The San Esteban National Park (in Spanish Parque Nacional San Esteban) is located in Carabobo, Venezuela. The park lies on the Northeastern part of Carabobo and it links with the Henri Pittier National Park of Aragua (state), Aragua. Both are natural reservation areas. St. Stephen's Church (''Iglesia San Esteban'') is a historic Roman Catholic church in downtown San Salvador, El Salvador. It belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Salvador and its patron saint is the protomartyr, St. Stephen.
