Samuel Huntington Birthplace
The Huntington Homestead, also known as the Samuel Huntington Birthplace, is a historic house museum and National Historic Landmark at 36 Huntington Road (Connecticut Route 14) in Scotland, Connecticut. Built in the early 18th century, it was the birthplace and boyhood home of Samuel Huntington (1731–1796), an American statesman and Founding Father. He served as a delegate to the Continental Congress, where he signed the Declaration of Independence. He also served as Governor of Connecticut and was the first presiding officer of the Congress of the Confederation, the first central government of the United States of America. Description and history The Huntington house is a 2½ story wood-frame structure, five bays wide, with a side gable roof and large central chimney. The roof at the rear of the house slopes down to the first floor, giving the house a classic New England saltbox appearance. Scotland is a town in Windham County, Connecticut. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 1,576. Scotland is a predominantly rural town with agriculture as the principal industry. Scotland is the least populated town in Windham County. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 18.7 square miles (48.3 km), of which, 18.6 square miles (48.2 km) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km) of it (0.27%) is water. It was incorporated in 1857. History In 1700, Isaac Magoon purchased of land from then Windham and thus began Scotland's History. The Connecticut General Assembly (CGA) is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is a bicameral body composed of the 151-member House of Representatives and the 36-member Senate.
