Samuel Holt (weaver)
Samuel Holt (7 February 1811 – 16 September 1887) was a British Weaving, weaver, inventor and industrialist who emigrated to the United States in later life. He started work aged 7 in a Manchester print works, rising to become a manager and superintendent in the textile industry. He invented a loom to produce Terrycloth, Turkish towels (Terry towels), and later established his own company in the US. Life Samuel Holt was born 7 February 1811 in Taunton, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, England. At the age of seven he started work at Otho Hulme & Sons print works in Droylsden. Two years later, his father John Holt apprenticed him to work with him in the cotton and silk weaving side of Otho Hulme & Sons business, where he worked until he was twenty-five. In 1834, he had joined Christy (towel manufacturer), W M Christy & Co., at Hillgate Mill, Stockport, which manufactured hats and later branched into cotton. Samuel is a figure who, in the narratives of the Hebrew Bible, plays a key role in the transition from the biblical judges to the Kingdom of Israel (united monarchy), United Kingdom of Israel under Saul, and again in the monarchy's transition from Saul to David. He is Veneration, venerated as a prophet in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In addition to his role in the Bible, Samuel is mentioned in Jewish rabbinic literature, rabbinical literature, in the Christian New Testament, and in the second chapter of the Quran (although the text does not mention him by name). He is also treated in the fifth through seventh books of ''Antiquities of the Jews'', written by the Jewish scholar Josephus in the first century.
