Samuel Elliott
Samuel Richard Lewes Elliott (21 April 1860 – 14 July 1933) was an Australian pastoralist and politician who served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1913 to 1914 and for a brief period in 1917, on both occasions representing the seat of Geraldton. Elliott was born in Penbryn, Cardiganshire, Wales, to Emeline Maria (née Lloyd) and Thomas Elliott. He arrived in Western Australia in 1875, at the age of 15, and began working on Theodore Fawcett's estate at Pinjarra. In 1880, Elliott was involved in the formation of the Murray Squatting Company, along with two other future MPs, Alexander Richardson and William Paterson. The company established Yeeda Station, the first station in the Kimberley, and later took over Mardie Station (in the Pilbara). The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. Mardie Station
Mardie Station is a pastoral lease and sheep then cattle station that was established in 1866 in the Pilbara region of Western Australia near the mouth of the Fortescue River. The lessee in 2012 was Fourseasons Corporation; Mardie is operating under the Crown Lease number CL453-1984 and has the Land Act number LA3114/1027. History The original pastoral lease was taken by Simpson and MacIntoch, who worked for the Denison Plains Pastoral Company. The company equipped the barque ''Warrier'' in Melbourne and had intended to sail to Roebuck Bay to settle in another area but following a succession of calms the ship had to land at Cossack when the stock started to die of dehydration. Upon landing the group decided to trek south west and eventually squatted at Mardie Springs. Town Of Mosman Park
The Town of Mosman Park is a local government area of Western Australia. It covers an area of approximately 4.3 km2 in western metropolitan Perth, the capital of Western Australia and lies about 14 km southwest of the Perth CBD and 5 km from Fremantle. History The Buckland Hill Road District was created on 6 October 1899. It was renamed the Cottesloe Beach Road District on 2 July 1909, but reverted to the Buckland Hill name on 10 October 1930. It was renamed the Mosman Park Road District on 12 February 1937. In Australian politics, the two-party-preferred vote (TPP or 2PP), is the result of an opinion poll or a projection of an election result where preferences are distributed to one of the two major parties, the Labor Party and the Liberal/National Coalition e.g. "Coalition 50%, Labor 50%. The preference distribution is usually based upon the results of the last election, and the votes for other candidates are distributed between to the two parties. As such the TPP is a rough indicator of voting intent that focuses on determining the likely majority in the lower house. It is compared to previous values to predict the swing and hence the likelihood of a change in government between the major parties. 1917 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 29 September 1917 to elect 50 members to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The Nationalist-Country- National Labor coalition, led by Premier Sir Henry Lefroy, retained government against the Labor Party led by Opposition Leader Philip Collier. The election followed a series of major changes in the Western Australian political landscape. Results As the political changes were of a nature which make direct comparison meaningless, no vote swings have been included, and seat swings indicated are those caused by the election itself, rather than a comparison with the previous election. 1914 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 21 October 1914 to elect 50 members to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The Labor party, led by Premier John Scaddan, retained government against the opposition conservative Liberal Party led by Opposition Leader Frank Wilson, though with only the barest of majorities. The election also saw the emergence of the Western Australian Country Party, which had been formed at a conference of the Farmers and Settlers Association the previous year to fight for rural interests, and won eight seats at the election.
