Samuel Dunch
Samuel Dunch (1593–1668) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1621 and 1653. Dunch was the son of Edmund Dunch of Little Wittenham in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). He matriculated at Magdalen College, Oxford on 11 November 1608, aged 15 and was awarded BA on 23 January 1612. He was a student of Gray's Inn in 1611. In 1621 he was elected MP for Wallingford. He was also a Justice of the Peace and served as High Sheriff of Berkshire in 1629. He lived at Pusey in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). Dunch was an uncle of Oliver Cromwell. In 1653, he was nominated to the Barebones Parliament as MP for Berkshire . Dunch married Dulcibella Moore, daughter of John Moore, Serjeant-at-law, by licence dated 28 May 1617. Sir William Dunch
Sir William Dunch (1578–1611) of Brightwell, Berkshire was an English politician during the reign of King James I. He was the son of Sir Edmund Dunch (1551–1623) and graduated from Balliol College, Oxford in 1595 before entering Gray's Inn. He married Mary Cromwell in 1599, the daughter of Sir Henry Cromwell and aunt to Oliver Cromwell. It is believed that the variant name for the rounded hills Wittenham Clumps (Mother Dunch's Buttocks) near the Dunch's family seat at Little Wittenham is associated with her. He was knighted in 1603 by King James I. Dunch represented Wallingford in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire) as an MP from 1604 to 1611. John Southby (1594–1683)
John Southby (1594–1683) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons from 1654 to 1656. Southby was the son of Richard Southby of Carswell Manor in the parish of Buckland, Oxfordshire, Buckland in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire) and his wife, Jane, the daughter of Edward Keate of Lockinge in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). His father died when he was twelve and he inherited the manor which he is considered responsible for rebuilding in the first half of the 17th century. Robert Pye (Roundhead)
Sir Robert Pye (ca. 16201701) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1640 and 1660. He fought on the Parliamentary side in the English Civil War. He was a member of the aristocratic Pye Family. Biography Pye was the son of Sir Robert Pye the Elder, Auditor of the Exchequer, and his wife Mary Croker, daughter of John Croker of Batsford in Gloucestershire. In December 1640, Pye was elected Member of Parliament for Woodstock in the Long Parliament. He was knighted by 1642. In the Civil War, he chose the Parliamentary side and became colonel of Horse in General Fairfax's regiment. In the course of the war he besieged his father's mansion at Faringdon in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire), which the latter had allowed the Royalists to garrison. Edmund Dunch, 1st Baron Burnell of East Wittenham (1602–1678) was an English Member of Parliament who supported the Parliamentary cause before and during the English Civil War. During the Interregnum he sat as a member of parliament. In 1659, after the Protectorate and before the Restoration, regaining his seat in the Rump he also sat in Committee of Safety. After the restoration of the monarchy he was not exempted under the Act of Pardon and Oblivion but the titles granted to him under the Protectorate were not recognised under the restored monarchy of Charles II.
