Samuel Cunningham (Canadian Politician)
Samuel Cunningham (April 8, 1848 – January 14, 1919) was a politician from Northwest Territories, Canada. Although of mixed blood (Metis), he fought in the 1885 resistance on the government side, later serving on the NWT Council. Cunningham was the son of John Cunningham, and Rosalie L' Hirondelle. His grandfather Patrick Cunningham was from Soligo Ireland who came to work for the Hudson's Bay Company, and his grandmother was Nancy Anne Bruce from Luisianna (daughter of Benjamin Bruce from the Orkney Islands of Scotland and Matilda who was Mohawk) Sam Cunningham was born at Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta District. He was married to Susan Gray. He was a pioneer in the St. Albert area, He opened St. Albert Trail. Cunningham was born at Fernhill House, Glencairn, Belfast, and educated at Belfast Academy and at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh. Knox Cunningham
Sir Samuel Knox Cunningham, 1st Baronet, (3 April 1909 – 29 July 1976) was a Northern Irish barrister, businessman and politician. As an Ulster Unionist politician at a time when the Unionists were part of the Conservative Party, he was also a significant figure in United Kingdom politics as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Harold Macmillan. Sam Cunningham is an American politician who was elected as the first African-American mayor of Waukegan, Illinois, the largest city and county seat of Lake County, Illinois in 2017. After a 2021 loss to Ann B. Taylor, Cunningham was reelected to serve a second, nonconsecutive term in 2025. Biography Cunningham was born and raised in Waukegan and lived in public housing. He is a graduate of Waukegan East High School and Central State University where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing. After college, he established his own business as an insurance agent. In 1975, he joined the Waukegan Police Department as an officer. Samuel Lewis Cunningham Jr (August 15, 1950 – September 7, 2021), nicknamed "Bam", was an American professional football player who was a fullback for 10 seasons with the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the USC Trojans, where he earned first-team All-American honors and was the MVP of the 1973 Rose Bowl. Selected in the first round of the 1973 NFL draft by the Patriots, Cunningham became the franchise's all-time leading rusher. He was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
