Samuel C. C. Ting
Chao Chung Ting (, born January 27, 1936), also known by his English name Samuel, is a Taiwanese-American physicist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1976 with Burton Richter for discovering the Subatomic particle, subatomic J/ψ particle. He is the Thomas Dudley Cabot Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Early life and education Ting was born on January 27, 1936, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to first generation immigrant parents from Ju County, Shandong, province. His parents, Kuan-hai Ting and Tsun-ying Wong, met and married as graduate students at the University of Michigan. ''Waishengren'', sometimes called mainlanders, are a group of migrants who arrived in Taiwan from mainland China between the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II in 1945 and sometime following the Kuomintang retreat at the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949. They came from various regions of mainland China and spanned multiple social classes. The term is often seen in contrast with '' benshengren'', which refers to Hoklo and Hakka people in Taiwan who arrived prior to 1945 who had lived under Japanese rule. Tsun-ying Wong
Tsun-ying Wong ( zh, 王隽英; 1908 – 2 December 1960) was a Chinese academic and politician. She was among the first group of women elected to the Legislative Yuan in 1948. Biography Wong was born in 1908 and was originally from Panshidian in Shandong province.
