Samsung A100
Samsung SGH-A100 is a clamshell-style mobile phone designed and developed by Samsung Electronics. It was announced on 9 October 1999 and released in 2000 on the GSM network worldwide. The SGH-A100 is the GSM version of the CDMA SCH-A100 released in South Korea. This handset was introduced there in May 1999 with the name ' Anycall Mini Folder' where it became extremely popular. In June 2000, Samsung announced a variant, SGH-A110, with an additional WAP browser. It was slated for release by end of Q3 2000 in Singapore. The A100 was not Samsung's first flip phone: the company released the SCH-800 'Anycall Folder' in October 1998 in South Korea. It became a phenomenon similar to how the Motorola StarTAC had been. IrDA
IrDA is a wireless standard designed for exchanging data using infrared (IR). Infrared ports for this purpose have been implemented in portable electronic devices such as mobile telephones, laptops, cameras, printers, and medical devices. The main characteristics of this kind of wireless optical communication are physically secure bidirectional data transfer, line-of-sight and very low bit error rate, using point-and-shoot principles. Flip (form)
Clamshell design is a form factor commonly used in the design of electronic devices and other manufactured objects. It is inspired by the morphology of the clam. The form factor has been applied to handheld game consoles, mobile phones (where it is often called a "flip phone"), and especially laptop computers. Clamshell devices are usually made of two sections connected by a hinge, each section containing either a flat panel display or an alphanumeric keyboard/ keypad, which can fold into contact together like a bivalve shell. CDMA
Code-division multiple access (CDMA) is a channel access method used by various radio communication technologies. CDMA is an example of multiple access, where several transmitters can send information simultaneously over a single communication channel. This allows several users to share a band of frequencies (see bandwidth). Anycall
Anycall () was a South Korean mobile phone brand established by Samsung Electronics in 1993. It was once the most popular mobile phone brand in the country, having been the leader since 1995. Samsung mobile phones were sold through the Anycall brand in South Korea and the greater China region prior to 2011. The brand was eventually retired during the 2010s when it only remained in use for feature phones. WAP Browser
Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is an obsolete technical standard for accessing information over a mobile cellular network. Introduced in 1999, WAP allowed users with compatible mobile devices to browse content such as news, weather and sports scores provided by mobile network operators, specially designed for the limited capabilities of a mobile device. The Japanese i-mode system offered a competing wireless data standard. Before the introduction of WAP, mobile service providers had limited opportunities to offer interactive data services, but needed interactivity to support Internet and Web applications.
