Stock car races in the NASCAR Cup Series have been held at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas since 1997. The race's trophy is in the shape of a cowboy hat on top of a piston. Traditionally, the winning driver wears a black cowboy hat and fires a couple of six-shooters in the air on victory lane. Current race The event, currently known as Würth 400 for sponsorship reasons, has been held sometime in October or November each year, except for 2024 when it was held in April, where the track's original spring race (held from 1997 to 2020) was traditionally held. The NASCAR Cup Series is the top racing series of the NASCAR, National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), the most prestigious stock car racing series in the United States. The series began in 1949 as the Strictly Stock Division, and from 1950 to 1970 it was known as the Grand National Division. In 1971, when the series began leasing its naming rights to the R. J. Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is a Grade 1 Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA-specification motor racing track and facilities located in Austin, Texas, United States. The 2005 Dickies 500 was a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series stock car race, which was held on November 6, 2005, at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) in Fort Worth, Texas. It was the inaugural running of the Dickies 500 after being created for the 2005 season. Summary The race was the 34th of the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series season, and the eighth race in the 2005 Chase for the NEXTEL Cup, and was the first race to be run under the lights at TMS.
