Sampaguita Pictures
Sampaguita Pictures was a Philippine film production company. It was named for the Philippine national flower, sampaguita. Though no longer functioning, the company's Sampaguita Compound remains in Quezon City. History Sampaguita Pictures was established in the last quarter of 1937. Its first feature-length film was ''Bituing Marikit'', starring Elsa Oria and Rogelio dela Rosa. It was a box-office hit. The company continued to make films in the action, musical, horror and suspense genres. Before World War II began, and the Japanese occupied the Philippines, several Sampaguita films enjoyed box office success in the region. Some of them employed the famous tandem of Carmen Rosales and Rogelio dela Rosa, like ''Panambitan'', ''Pagsuyo'', ''Jazmin'' and many more. Granada Street
Granada Street, also known as Senator Jose O. Vera Street, is a road in Quezon City, Metro Manila, the Philippines. It runs from Nicanor Domingo Street as an extension of Gilmore Avenue to the boundary with San Juan, where it terminates at Bonny Serrano Avenue and becomes Ortigas Avenue. Route description The land on which the street lies on used to be part of an estate owned by the family of José O. Vera, founder of Sampaguita Pictures and later Senator from 1946 to 1949. César Ramírez (actor)
Arlen Quindoy Aguilar (July 9, 1925 – July 18, 2003), also known by his screen name César Ramírez, was a Filipino actor who was a leading man for Sampaguita Pictures. He was famous for his portrayal of a Philippines' mythical hero, " Bernardo Carpio". He was married to Alicia Vergel. They had two children, Ace and Beverly. Sometime after retiring from the film business, Ramirez moved to Los Angeles, California in the United States. He died of cardiac arrest on July 18, 2003. Alicia Vergel
Erlinda Gaerlan Asturias-Aguilar (June 7, 1927 – May 20, 1992), popularity known as Alicia Vergel, was a Filipina actress noted for her roles as fighting women and amazons and, like Norma Blancaflor, for her heart-shaped face. Early career Vergel's film credits include ''Diwani'' opposite César Ramirez, '' MN'' with Carmen Rosales as her arch-enemy, '' Balisong'' with Ramon Revilla and ''Madame X'' with Gloria Romero as her daughter. Hernando Alano (March 20, 1941 – July 23, 2022), better known as Boy Alano, was a Filipino actor. He won the award for Best Child Actor at the 5th Asian Filmfest. Early life He was the third child of Consuelo Sotto and Exequiel Alano. He went to Moises Salvador Elementary School and finished high school at National University.
