Samed Behrengi
SAMED, short for ''Palestine Martyrs Works Society'' (), is the economic institution of the PLO. It represents the PLO at economic conferences in Arab countries. SAMED is also involved in the political, cultural, and social fields. For many years, SAMED handled the distribution of cash compensation to the families of martyrs killed in attacks on Israel, payments now handled by the Palestinian Authority Martyr's Fund. SAMED was set up by the PLO as a front company, a commercial and manufacturing entity. Most SAMED workshops were then in the refugee camps in northern Lebanon. Since then its activities have expanded. Following its establishment, SAMED operated across the spaces of Palestinian exile while it maintained a global reach beyond Palestinian refugee camps, namely with workshops and collaborations in other allied states, particularly in Africa. Palestinian Authority Martyr's Fund
The Palestinian Authority Martyrs Fund is a financial program operated by the Palestinian Authority (PA). It operates through two main channels: The Foundation for the Care of the Families of Martyrs that provides monthly financial support to the families of Palestinians who were killed, injured, or detained in connection with acts of violence against Israelis; and the Prisoners Fund that delivers payments to Palestinians currently held in Israeli prisons. As of 2018, the stipends amounted to $330 million, or 7% of the PA's annual budget. Critics often call the fund "pay for slay" and blame the payments for "encouraging terrorism". In 2007, the World Bank argued that the fund did "not seem justified from a welfare or fiscal perspective." A refugee camp is a temporary settlement built to receive refugees and people in refugee-like situations. Refugee camps usually accommodate displaced people who have fled their home country, but camps are also made for internally displaced people. Usually, refugees seek asylum after they have escaped war in their home countries, but some camps also house environmental and economic migrants. Camps with over a hundred thousand people are common, but as of 2012, the average-sized camp housed around 11,400. Palestinian Refugee Camps
Palestinian refugee camps were first established to accommodate Palestinians who were displaced by the 1948 Palestinian expulsion and flight during the 1948 Palestine war. Camps were established by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. A subsequent wave of Palestinian refugees were created in the Naksa after the Six-Day War in 1967. Palestine Securities Exchange
The Palestine Exchange (PEX; ) is a stock exchange based in Nablus in the Palestinian territories. The PEX was established in 1995, and operates under the supervision of the Palestinian Capital Market Authority (CMA). As of December 2012, 48 companies were listed on the PEX, with a total market capitalization of about US$3 billion in five main areas: financial services, insurance, investments, industry, and services. Most of the listed companies trade in Jordanian dinars or in US dollars. The PEX is open Sunday to Thursday between 9.45 a.m. and 1 p.m. throughout the year. It is closed on Friday, Saturday, public holidays and the last working day of the fiscal year. About ten stockbroker firms are authorised to place orders and process financial products on the PEX.
